So I had a strong, attacking game as white and was just about fork my opponent's rook and queen, when all the sudden he drops his rook down to my back rank and mates my king...

Fuck

But then I realized that if my king was allowed to capture one of the white pawns on the second rank, he would have been able to escape.

Why not? I mean, IRL you don't think the king would sacrifice one of his lowly foot soldiers to escape capture?

IMO, they should change the rules of chess.
