I was in Wal-Mart and low and behold, they had a 60gb PS3

Ok this is just criminal, you buy a PS3/bluray player and it doesn't come with component cables???!

What, did you expect Sony to actually give you some decent stuff with your PS3? HA! If you want it you'll have to spring for the additional cost of component cables on top of everything else.

It kind of sucks, but I got component cables off eBay for $17-hardly a big deal.
HDMI ftw, I just picked mine up today too. It's updating... nothing like bringing home a $600 machine and hooking it up to the network and then it telling you that it needs to update. :frown:

I'm semi-impressed now. Played GT HD Demo and NBA 2k7, downloading motorstorm demo now.
All in all I'd say I'm happy with the purchase if I think about it this way... I wanted either HD or Blu-Ray (360 + HD Drive = $600 = PS3 != 360 + HD Drive + Live Subscription)

Plus I was going to get a PS3 regardless just for GT5 and FF13.

Grand tourismo 5. Holy crap i forgot about that. Somehow i need to scrap together a ps3 and a high def tv before that comes out.

You have time....

The fact that sony has only shipped a couple hundred thousand ps3's and they're still on the shelves leads me to believe that it will fail. Software sales won't be able to even cover the loss they take on each ps3, let alone give them or (more importantly) their developers.

You just bought a sega dreamcast, dude.

i bought 2
one on release day from frys which i took back exacrly a month later on dec 17th, and one from frys a week ago which i took back yesterday

Get Resistance: Fall of Man. The game is sick. Single player is a lot of fun and is pretty long (I haven't finished it yet). It has offline co-op which is a blast. Multiplayer (online and offline) is tons of fun. The guys at Insomniac did a great job with the weapons - they are all pretty much just as useful as each other and they are all really creative and cool. The graphics are pretty slick. The controls just feel right. Definitely the best launch title ever imo.

I also bought Resistance. I just played 2 hours of it single player... 1 problem is that I'll never get used to console controllers for fps. But I agree the game is pretty good and should get better once I get used to the controls.

The graphics are definitely next-gen as is motorstorm!

Does anyone have the sales numbers for the sega dreamcast? I'm pretty sure that the PS3 has already far outsold it 😛

I wish there was an adapter that would let me use the much superior 360 controller on the PS3.

I love my 360 controller too, but the PS3 controller isn't that bad, although it feels as light as a feather. I wish Sony would have kept the boomerang controller though, or at least offered it as an option. It looked pretty interesting. 🙁

Dreamcast sold over 10.6 million units, and would have easily outsold both the XBox and the Gamecube had Sega continued its course rather then pull the plug in March 2001. PS3 is below the sales of the Dreamcast on its launch right now.

Well I've seen people returning PS3 to stores in droves. I think a lot of the people that bought them at launch got stuck with them and are bringing them back now. That is why we are seeing them in stores now.

I think its more like people who whored them couldn'y pawn them off eBay for the profit they were expecting and there are returning them.

EDIT: On second review, I think we are saying the same thing. 😀

I only bought it with Christmas money, or I would never have paid for it with my own money.

So whose money did you spend? LOL 😛

I was in Wally-World last night as well and saw a slug of PS3s (20 and 60GB versions) but no Wii for mii. 🙁
