I think I just scammed on e8ay. I paid through paypal, but it was only a $10 item. This is the second time out of about 20 purchases over the past couple years. The amount of money I've lost buying off ebay is starting really negate the savings I was making from buying used. This guy had a verified paypal address...

I've received a refund twice... Just go thru the steps on there website and you'll have no problems... And make sure to leave a negative feedback...

I have been buying/sellin gon Ebay since 1998, and I have never been had. Hmm, I also never use Paypal.

there should be an ebay forum here. That way people could complain among themselves about how they got cheated and such. Maybe people will see all the other problems people have had and finally learn their lesson.

I've been on eBay for years and have bought and sold over 80 things and have always used Paypal and have never been had.

Not to say it doesn't happen.

So what happened?

Did you pay the guy and never received the item? Did you contact him?

Quoted from PayPal, RE: checking verified member status:

See if the seller is a Verified member of PayPal and has been a PayPal member for at least a couple of months. To check PayPal membership status, go to the "Send Money" tab and initiate a payment to the seller. On the "Check the details of your payment" page, before the payment is sent, you'll see the seller's reputation link (e.g. Verified Premier Member) next to his email address. Click the link to see more information about the membership status.

Well, I kinda screwed myself. I paid him via paypal as soon as the auction was over. I should've waited for him to respond first, but now e-bay automatically sends you the payment instructions from their preferences so I figured I'd just go ahead and do it right away because I was in a hurry for the item. Well it's been a week now and he hasn't responded to my multiple e-mails.

I've made several hundred tranactions with no problems, although I realize there is always that risk.

I wouldn't panic yet -- what type of feedback does he have?

Not the world's greatest. He had 18 unique positive, all from buying, and two negative from buying. His negatives he received after he left negative feedback to users that charged more for shipping than what it actually cost. Definately a lowball move, but I figured that really had nothing to do with whether he was a scammer or not.

do you have a hotmail address, and does he have a hotmail address? if so, hotmail's spam filters would have automatically blocked the paypal notification because they forge your hotmail address for the return address, does he respond to any of you e-mails. whats his ID so we can look him up or avoid him.

I sold an item via eBay and accepted payment via PayPal. I specified that I wouldn't ship to a P.O. Box, and I didn't - the buyer gave me a normal address. A week later the buyer's credit card issued a chargeback from my PayPal account. Turns out the buyer had stolen somebody's credit card to pay me with. Also turns out the "normal address" was in fact the address of one of those P.O. Box stores - and the guy disappeared. Even though I believe it's PayPal's responsibility to verify their customer's accounts, addresses and passwords, they didn't see it that way. I dealt directly with a manager at PayPal with no luck. I went through eBay's SafeHarbor program with no luck. Interestingly that particular buyer is no longer a registered user on eBay either - I emailed another one of the people he bought from and the same exact thing happened to him as well but somehow eBay and PayPal don't seem to care. I mean put two and two together people! I even got the police involved and pressed charges against the buyer but of course he's long gone. Screw eBay and screw PayPal - never again.
