Hell i got confused with all that, thanks for the clarification. I show the Premium and thought you need to have a Premium account to get that price and the game code.

I think Newegg is trying to be like Amazon, with third-party sellers and "Premium" to match Prime. They have a long way to go to get on Amazon's level...

I had 970s under water, they overclocked like gods. But I got bored with them and wanted to try something different. So, after about a month of research, I went with an 8GB 290X as opposed to the 390. More powerful core, same amount of memory....put a block on it and some overclock, and it's making the 970 look pretty pedestrian.

970 @ 1633 core / 2175 memory (custom bios, maxing voltage and power limits)

8GB 290X @ 1307 core / 1790 memory with stock bios

Both cards are EXCELLENT overclockers, but....at the same price points, the 290X is clearly the winner.

I never saw anything from the 390s that impressed me....at all.

yep. pulled the trigger on a msi r9 390 since i heard twin frozr is the best cooler, gonna pick it up from b&h tomorrow. i've accepted the fact that i'll have to re-do my loop, i'd rather do that than accept the limitations of a small card when i don't have to.

i chose it over the 970 because it seems like the better performer overall, and i realized that i don't really ever use/care for gameworks on my 670; i can probably live without it. also i have a rift dk2, and i've never had an amd card before so i want to try it out.

My problem with gameworks is that you need a high end card for it. You can't use Gameworks on a measily GTX 970. You need a GTX 980Ti for Gameworks. The features never justify the performance drops for them.
So if you're turning off Gameworks, or running them on low settings, the R9 390 is the better card. Well, it's just faster overall right now.
The biggest benefit for the R9 390 is the crossfire potential. Which is why I want to swap my R9 290 for a 390. The 8GB VRAM means there is no worry about VRAM and grants you access to 4K gaming, or 1800P VSR.
With a 4K Freesync Monitor, you can probably get a number of games playable at 4K.

So the price/performance/CF potential(flexible) of the R9 390 is really great.

If next gen is overpriced/doesn't offer enough performance, you crossfire. If it does, you didn't invest much in a more expensive option, and it will still hold the performance it has, if not add more, so pretty nice choice right now.

I do think however, if Maxwell holds its performance, people will change their minds with Nvidia. If it doesn't.... I think that's going to be too big of a topic to ignore for gamers who are brand loyal.

Edit: Just checked the prices of the GTX 980 on newegg....
Wow... that is literally the WORST priced card. Nvidia needs to drop the price to $400 flat right now.
R9 390x - $360 then add the $20 rebate and the 5% off promo code.... $323?

And the R9 Nano for $450? You can get 2 faster cards than the GTX 980 for cheaper... I feel like that should be a news article for review sites. This is why I really am fed up with review sites right now, they are not really informative for helping people buy things, they just receive free videocards, and then try to not offend anyone so they can continue to receive free cards.

No follow up reviews, no real buyers analysis, nothing on the landscape changes of prices, there definitely is an opening for a more aggressive front for information for the masses.

well shoot. i just measured my case and i have only about 10" of video card clearance; my pump and reservoir are in the way of any long cards

The guy has almost 10 inches for his gpu, why would you need a gtx970 itx? just grab the 8 inch one I linked for 305$ and a free game. Much cheaper than a nano and when overclocked @ 1080p its as fast as a gtx980.

8.02 inch gtx970 for 305$ and free Tomb raider.

+290...running any higher doesn't really do any good because the voltage starts dropping. I'm working with a couple of guys on getting a bios done that will eliminate the vdroop and allow me to use more voltage...ultimately, I'd like to see 1350 on the core.

He already bought the MSI 390. The Zotac 970 uses crappy VRMs, has no backplate and is fitted with loud / crappy fans and prone to coil whine. It's worth spending a few extra and getting a card by a better company.
