I want to take a comic book and turn it into a movie. You see, this means that all the dialogue is already written for me. All the costume design, set design, and cinematography is completed. Hell, even the scenes are already storyboarded. I just need to look into my camera, compare it to the comic book, shout "Action!", and fill in the blanks. Sounds like a cushy job.

I wonder if you re-read this and realized how ridiculous it sounds. How exactly is costume design done by reading a comic book? I'd think it would be easier to say, dress someone up in a business suit than it would be to figure out how the hell to make spiderman look like he does in a comic book.

i agree, it seems like he didnt put in any of his own thought into making watchmen. Love the comic, but didnt like the movie. The movie just didnt flow well taken directly from the comic

Yeah, because other directors don't use art departments for storyboards and costumes, writers for scripts, directors of cinematography to do the actual shooting, etc.

The directors job is to bring it all together and make it work. He is a colonel, not one man trying to do the work of every grunt.

I give Zach a lot of credit for giving these stories his own twist while staying true to the basics and to the cannon. Considering that we are entering a spiral of remakes, sequels and reboots, it is refreshing to see a director that wants to tell a story in cinema while not pissing away 30 year of back story.

Take for instance the travesty that is coming out in a few months that will be Star Trek. JJ Abrams has taken an entire universe of storylines, style, characters, and even an actual universe and COMPLETELY threw it out the window and did whatever the fuck he felt like.
Have you seen the trailers? Huge colorful explosions with massive space battles where everyone including the bad guy is a sexy teen. I mean they even have a Space Base Jumping scene. A FUCKING SPACE BASE JUMPING SCENE.

I don't know if JJ has even ever seen a Star Trek episode based on what I have seen so far. It isn't a wham bam space action flick. It is a story about discover, exploration, strategy and most importantly the human element in "alien" environment. It isn't an overblown dawson's creek with explosions in space.

Considering the characters are already drawn, all you have to do is copy how the characters look in the comic.

Michael Bay's job is easy too.

First, I'll start with a HUGE CG building and have a meteor crash into, then two motorcycles on fire will have to jump over 4 Apache helicopters which will burst into flames. At the end, we'll have a highway chase of 13 semis and a 4 Tomhawk cruise missiles will come flying out of nowhere and blow up 12 out of the 13 semis.

I was referring to the movies

At the very least I see a step up from Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis etc.

I liked First Contact alot but I am excited that this movie looks better than the other 3 TNG era movies and Voyager, and Enterprise which has taken the series in the wrong direction
