I have a 45 min metro commute. I am a big audiobook fan with my ipod, but now I am looking to mix in some shows, movies, etc. on divx, xvid, etc. What should I get. I think I would prefer something with a little bigger screen than the ipod. Also should be small - should I get a PDA, PSP?

I would think a PA that can play the video sideways on the full screen would be good.

How cheap a PDA can I get that would work for seamless video?

Thanks

You can get a pocketpc PDA, I have a Dell x50v, that might be a little bit of your price range, I'm not sure if Dell still sells the x30 High, which also plays Divx videos as well. My new Toy (Treo650 PalmPDA/Phone) also plays divx videos as well, You will need a program called TCPMP, its free and very good. I believe any and Palm or Pocket PC device will be able to play video, but you also need a memory card as well (1gb to 2gb) usually holds a nice cache of movies. Also check out PocketDVD for converting DVD's to PocketPC devices as well... Good Luck

I would go with the PSP and a large memeory card(1 gig like the other person suggested).

With the PSP you can watch DIVX/XVID if you hack it. But the best part is if you get bored watching shows you can play video games on it, also put emulators on it like SNES, NES etc.. and you can even use it to read e-books and listen to audio books.

Only problem is limited memory, 1 gig isn't that much, one movie. I would love if sony released a HD based PSP.

Depends on how you use the pspvideo prog. I can squeeze about 3-4 movies on mine at a decent res.

i just bought an ipaq from the FS forum here for this reason. works great.

i already have a ton of stuff recorded, so I run lathe to convert down to proper resolution - this only takes about 5 minutes for a 30 minute show. drag & drop to your memory card and it's ready to go.

i use TCPMP to view the vids. both XVid, Divx, mpg etc.
