I have this software that allows you to use your PC as a remote file server.
It's an http file server.

Basically I can dump any file into it and give someone my IP address, they connect to me and I upload to them the file.

NOW here is the problem, Just recently this is no longer working.
I beleive it has to do with windows and some recent updates maybe.
We both use XP PRO SP2 and have all current updates applied.

What happens is the transfer starts and goes to about 1meg then stops.

Now obviously we are sending big files, thats why we're not using email or something like that.

Just last night I was trying to send him a file that was 540meg and it wouldn't work?

Does any one know whats happening?

Is it windows stopping us from doing this?

Are there any 3rd party software apps we could try to overcome this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

** I would like to do something very easy also, nothing complicated. the software I use now is free and very simple, drag a file to it and its ready to go.**

You should use BitTorrent instead. Configure the tracker in your client of choice (e.g., Azureus), choose the port then give out a .torrent file to whomever you want to share the file with. BT's much better to transfer large files with than http, especially on slower connections.

I currently use bittorrent for other things like downloading.

Don't you need access to a tracker?

Can you set up bittorrent to use your PC as a tracker?

This I'm not sure of?

I dont wanna upload a .torrent to a site for everyone to access...just 1 or 2 people you know.

No, you don't even need to turn your computer into a tracker (such as a 'tracker' running on a webserver). Most BT clients, like Azureus, have trackers built into them, so you don't have to use an external tracker address. Then, the .torrent you created can be sent to your friends (IM, email, whatever). It's pretty easy.

I have Azureus but have never created a torrent or tracker.

I just looked at the options and there is alot of info in there!
