I want to test drive a new GTO

I've been checking out new cars online, and while the Mustang GT is much cheaper, I'm liking the whole 400hp thing the new Goat has going for it. If I want to test drive one, do I just call up the dealer and see if they have one that I could take out for a spin? Never test drove a new car before.

Dress nice, go down to a dealer and asked to test one out.

Simple.

You must first pass the test of the seven insurmountable obstacles.

If you are worthy you will be invited.

Dress nice? Who are you trying to impress? The GM employees?

As long as you are have a license, you can test drive whatever you like.

They do not have to allow you a test drive.

Acting polite and generating a good impression will open more doors unless you are going to flash a load of cash in their face.

You are asking to "borrow" a $20-30K vehicle.
Who do you think they will accept at face value; some-one that looks like a bum or some-one that looks clean.

Common sense will prevail in the business world.

When I bought mine I went in and asked. They let me drive it and I bought it on the spot. I've driven the Mustang too, and while its got good speed to it, the handling of the GTO is better, more fluid. The GT feels like a 20K car, the GTO feels like a 40K car. You just might like the interior too, it is what sold me. I did a 4 hour raod trip in a Mustang and the seats were KILLING me after about 3, the GTO's don't.

Just go up and test drive it, dress a little nicer than normal but nothing crazy and take your cheapest car, a beater preferably if you plan on buying it at all.

The GTO is the Monaro, not a Grand Prix. Top Gear loved it.

Dressing nice does not have to mean shirt and tie.

It means clothes that are not ripped or soiled.
Pants that do not show your underwear (if you wear some)

and acting mature helps too. if you act like a damn kid they might not let you drive the car.

I've driven up in a 91 Accord LX with front end body damage and driven a brand new S4 with 0 miles on the digital odometer and the salesman was taking the plastic covers off the seats for me. Right after that I drove a slightly used 911 ;)

I've owned a black 2005 GTO since July, and I absolutely love it.

And by the way, it is not related to the Grand Prix at all. Even the interior has an entirely different look and feel. The GTO is a very solid car, and does not give you the impression of cheapness and lack of quality that the Mustang does.

Hes not test driving a 745i or audi RS6, so dressing nice won't impact their decision to let you test drive it, and in some cases it doesn't even matter. I test drove a new audi RS6 avant once dressed like a complete bum (shorts, old t-shirt, and sandals) and they let me take it for a test drive. Granted I owned and pulled up to the dealer in a new BMW M3, but was nevertheless dressed crappy and they didnt think twice.

I have a 2003 Grand Am and the interior is far from cheap plastic looking. I really like it. My friend has an 05 Mazda 3 and the interior looks much more plastic than mine.

d00d, I'm pretty sure that I quoted DaTT. He lists an '05 Mustang GT (Plastic edition) in his sig. However following that line of thought, Mazda is a Ford company so it stands to reason that the plastic would show in the interior of your friends 3.

I test drove one a couple months ago. Being older and being able to afford it helps.

I wasn't very impressed with the car quite frankly.

So, the GTO's console is made out of what? Concrete? Plywood? Titanium? whatever, its still a G.M.
