I'm right there with you Spidey - my Dad passed away last month. The four or five weeks since then has been one of the hardest times of my life. I don't think it's supposed to be easy, you just have to keep getting a little better every day.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

At my work we also have a whats called an EAP (employee assistance program). I would recommend checking it out, at least it will give you someone to talk to.

Get your ass to a shrink/support group and think about taking prozac/celexa, etc for a while.

you are definitely to a "clinical" stage. Either a doctor or therapist can help. For example, a short term prescription to Xanax or some intensive therapy sessions. There are many avenues to approach this from, but you have to take the first step.

Sitting there doing nothing about it but cry is not going to do you, or those around, any good.

Depression is really, really, REALLY hard to get out of on your own. It can be done -- do things to get your mind off your troubles, such as working out, finding a new hobby, etc., but digging yourself out of your hole solo requires the willpower of a saint.

I wouldn't say that. It just takes time and dealing with your emotions. Some people do it with the help of a professional but most just deal with it and get on with life. It does take time though, sometimes many many months before the initial pain starts to fade but it will happen. As long as you aren't contemplating something drastic you can usually work through it on your own.

Sorry to hear of your pain and suffering though.

Were you the guy whose wife left with some random stranger on a cruise? If so, I'd be depressed too. On top of that losing your mother would be too much :(

Please talk to a doctor, Spidey... its not a mental problem or a weakness, it is what it is. It can be chemical or hormonal, or it can just be a tough time that counselling can really help you through.

BTW, this place is getting rediculous. Even just a year ago if somone posted that they were severely depressed and that they had lost both wife and mother in the past couple months, the ATOT community would offer advice, comfort, and what help we could. Now he gets a pile of:

st@b yourself
commit sepuku
be a man!
wuss.
want some cheese with that whine?
are you pregnant?

Karma is a beeyatch people. Just hope you never experience what Spidey is going through. And if you do, hope for better people around you (even online) than you have been to him.

Just grab your ballsack and forgive yourself for not living up to the standards you set for yourself. And if that doesn't work, ride it out. Sometimes we face much darkness in order to see the light that is gained from the experience.

I would put my foot in your ass for that but I fear it would interfere with the mod's, so I'll digress.

The same attitude the Columbine killers' parents had towards their sons... the "you're a man, you can't cry" idea perpetuated in our country stifles male human emotion, which can then manifest itself as rage or depression. Thanks for perpetuating this ideaology, your contribution to society today is at an all time high! :cookie:

Its definately a love thing. Back in the summer/fall of 2002, when I was 32 just like you, I went through the same thing. I realized I aint gettin any younger and things havent turned out exactly the way I wanted. Major depression along with a lots and lots of problems. Had to make a lot of changes physically, financially, emotionally, spiritually.

Things just have to play out and some major things may have to change in your life to give you new interest in it. Its kind of funny in a way because some problems I still have but I feel naturally good anyway and they dont get me down, because if Im going down, Im going down laughing about it - not crying.

:)

ps. the major physical change - built up to 50 pushups a day, had lasik done after 23 years of glasses, ran track, improved batting swing, etc...
