I want to start hunting, need some advice.

I'd have to go with Desy on this one. A .22-250 or .223 would probably be your best bet. Many states require that you hunt with a centerfire rifle, which eliminates the .22 for hunting. These calibers are also large enough to span your needs between the small stuff and larger game like deer, but small enough to not be overkill for most of the game that you could hunt. They shoot very nice and are extremely accurate. They'll also last you a lifetime.

Sephy, I would go with something FUN to shoot for small game, like a .22hornet, .223rem,.22-250, and get a larger one foe antelope/deer size, that can also handle those bears, something like a .300 win Mag. would do nicely. 150grain BTHP's for antelope, 165grain noslers for deer and then 220 grain nosler's for bear :) I am into hunting, whitetail (both deer and women as a matter of fact :) mostly. I like the 300 win mag because it can scale from antelope to bear.
