They are all in perfect or near perfect condition.
Some are former rentals.

Thinking going eBay or here in FS/FT.
Has anyone done this type of thing before?
Ballpark figure?

Thanks.

Update: They sold for $800 + S&H on eBay.

You trying to sell the whole bunch? You'll probably be lucky to get $400. Selling individually would make you more money, but it would be a serious PITA.

Maybe find a vid store that would take them as trade instead?

Yeah, I wanted to sell these in one bunch.
If it's about $400, I'd just keep them.

I'd say ~$5 apiece.

Edit: Oh, as a single lot maybe less than that. $3-5 apiece.

How much are you asking?

I thought about selling all my DVDs (~180 or so, the link in my sig is waaaaay out of date) to get some money for college, but after finding out I basically wouldn't get jack sh!t for them I just decided to keep them to kill time while I'm here :)

If you could find somewhere/someone to buy them for about $5 a pop, you'd have about $1150. Heck, even at $3 a DVD, you would make $690.

He'll get about $3 for most DVD's, a little more or less depending on the movie.

Best bet is to sell them for $5 each at a garage sale or Eaby, but then you have to mess with shipping.

Maybe Craigslist 'em?

Also, maybe if you list the movies and state how much you'd like to get for them then you might find a buyer hear pretty quickly.

Even for $5 a piece, I'd prolly pick up a few if there were any good movies in there.

Maybe the best and easiest thing to do is just make a list of them, post it and what you want for each DVD, and then leave the list up for a week or so. After that you've prolly made some cash, and you'll still have some DVD's left. That way you're not dragging it out.

Are there any independent video rental stores around you? A lot of rental places buy big lots off eBay when they're getting started. You might be able to offload some of them that way.

The problem with parting it out is that shipping is a huge PITA.

Unless he's already backed them up of course.

Then he might be able to pay for the 2TB of disc space needed to store the images ;).

You could list your $230, but only sell to people who are willing to buy 10-20 or more.

Selling them to a pawn shop or a video store won't get you much at all. I'd try the FS/FT forum first. Offer discounts when buying in bulk. Think of how much heatware you'll add up!!!

DVD > DVD-9 Rip > 230 * 9gbs = 2070gbs to do an image of all of the DVDs.

XviD = 700MB/movie. Only 161GB... Oh crap, did I write that? Damn you guys for tricking me.

I have the space, and I don't own enough DVDs to justify compression, so I do straight DVD-9 rips to my media center box.

Although I did do what Lokiju suggested for the rips I'm downloading from my media center box (NY) to here in college (MD).

individually worthless. shipping makes even a few bucks in cost get near what sale prices of older titles are these days at stores. i've seen plenty of special editions at 9.99 or below after less than a year on the shelf. dvds are cheap these days, and well its a format on its way out to boot:p unless its outa print and in demand by a cult following, it s not worht much to anyone. selling a big bundle of dvds for cheap might work, but you still aren't going to make much.

i just netflix these days. don't really care about buying em anymore.

iew, 700mb rip is good for warez kiddies, but on a big screen? thats just nasty.

Someone locally offered me $2.50/each, there's no way I'm taking that. I'd rather keep them.
