I want to secure my remote access of my router even more

Some routers have access control settings which when turned on can be set to block all connections from devices that haven't already been connected. New devices would require you to add their MAC address to the allowed devices list.

Remote access meaning accessing your router from off your network?

Yes why?

Is this a option for Asus routers ? If so where is it please? I don't see it. Thanks.

Looks like Asus routers have it under the firewall settings and it's called "MAC filtering"

You'll want to configure it to accept mode, so it accepts MAC addresses from the list. All other devices will be rejected.

Sorry I still don't see it. I must be blind. 🙁

Is it because I am using Asuswrt-Merlin firmware ?
Yup, and their documentation isn't fantastic, it looks like it might still be possible, but I have no experience with it, and their screenshots on their site don't provide a good deal of clarity.

MAC filtering only works on your local network, for the simple reason that the MAC address NEVER leaves the network the device is connected to.

From remote networks (the internet) a router can only filter on IP and port#

This. Entirely.

pcslookout, look into enabling the VPN server feature of your router. Set a long and complex password, and connect in remotely using that, then connect to the router's management IP address, and access it remotely that way. Way more secure.
