It seems to be legit but I'm still scared for you at the same time.

It seems weird that her english is kinda off.

it is not legit. when i was looking for a roommate through roommates.com i came across this same scam many times and it is a well known scam.

so what does the scammer stand to gain from this?

Exactly what I was wondering. While this does appear fishy, I can't see where the actual scam would take place. She's not asking for anything in return.

The MO will be fake. Either it will be for over the amount he requested and she'll ask for the difference, or will back out of the transaction and ask for a refund/partial refund.

Who would be dumb enough to feel obligated to do either of those when there wasnt any contractual agreement made.

even if only .1% of people would be dumb enough they'll probably make a lot of $

if you are given their information, you may want to go to BoA and check if they have an account there????

the cashiers check will of course, be invalid, or overdrawn .. but of course, you'll be held responisble by your bank for depositing/cashing the cashiers check...

There are many like this floating around on Craigslist.. I posted something for sale a while back, and got bombarded with scam emails to my Gmail account..

Same thing happened to me.

My guess, like another poster stated, is that once he has the cashier's check, she will back out and ask for the money back. The hope is gigapet will send her a money order which will be legit. The cashier's check gigapet deposited, though, will bounce back and he will be out the money he "reimbursed" the girl.

you'd have to be lead paint eating retarded to listen to someone demanding their money back over the internet with no record of transaction.

well, it depends on which bank you are using. some banks won't let you to cash checks more than $500.

I think you are wasting your time honestly..
Scammers are scammers for a reason...
Do you actually think you are going to be able to scam a scammer? Some scammers do this as a living.. and make a killing doing it... they are probably not as dumb as you make them out to be..

Her Reply:

he is going to send it before my arrival so you cash and let me know

My Reply:

It would would be much better if we just goto Bank Of America Together when you arrive. Bank of America is very close to my hosue so it is very easy to stop there on the way to my house. It is alot easier that way and we don't have to worry about the check getting lost in the mail or anything. What day will you be arriving?
