I haven't had any experience with this but I want to be able to re-sync my ipod into my computer after reformatting. What is the best way to go about doing this? Thanks!

Consolidate library? is that the feature you're mentioning? if so does this also copy over all the album art?

You can't do it in iTunes. Make sure all your music is on your iPod, reformat, re-install iTunes, and then download iPodRip. It'll do what you want.

simple except that it invloves an extra step for some people.

Assuming that you have ALL of your music saved in the
my documents > my music > itunes > itunes music
folder, than all you do is copy the entire itunes folder to where you need it, and then copy it back after you reformat and reinstall itunes.

If you music is somewhere else, you need to back it up and the itunes folder. After you reformat and install, put the itunes folder back as well as your music, and fire up itunes.

It will all be there:)

copy folder to backup, paste folder to restore the xml data and your files?

how much easier can it get besides having a big button?:p

okay copy all your music from the > my music folder, which is where its in by default.. if you bought music, make sure you 'deauthorize' the computer (in one of the pull down menus) before reformatting... that way the next time you put it back in, you dont lose 1 more authorization to your computer's itunes library.

if that makes sense..

so yeah deauthorize computer first (look at the menus) and then copy the itunes folder to your external drive..

If you're talking about copying the data from the iPod to the computer use a program like sharepod...

You can do it manually as well however sharepod automatically renames the files so they're in a standard format rather than the format apple has them in while on the iPod (a 4 letter random filename is used such as LEAQ.mp3 or OTUE.mp3)..
