I currently work at Boomers, a mini theme park, but I am planning to quit my job today because I hate working there. They made me clean the bathroom! They told me that it's everyone's job, that everyone has to do it every once in a while. But still, I signed up to be a cashier, not a part time janitor. I wouldn't mind cleaning tables, or even the floor. But cleaning the bathroom is just too much.

So how should I tell them that I want to quit my job? Can I just call them or should I tell them in person? It's my first job so I'm not sure what to do or say.

My personal policy is that I sleep on decisions like this. See how you feel in the morning. Another day cleaning bathrooms won't kill you, either - it will just piss you off. The biggest thing to remember is don't blow your stack. If you do decide to leave, you should give two-weeks' notice. And, you should always have another job lined up before you quit one. Prospective employers will notice gaps in your employment history.

dude, this is a stupid theme park and the op is proably like 16 years old, not some lawfirm or it consulting job.

QFT

Bottom line: if you care wtf they think or want to show some courtesy, give a notice. If they are a bunch of jerks tell them to stick it.

It's like working at Boomers is going to get you bigger and better jobs. I'm not talking sh!t on the OP, but I've had crappy jobs in the past and if I didnt like them or got fed up with them, I'd quit on the spot. If you give them two weeks, it's not benefitting you one bit besides attributing to your own misery. If you quit on the spot, at least you'll have the time to search for jobs, go in for interviews etc. . .you're only out the cash, which seems the misery of the job outweighs that.

yea, but regardless, it's common courtesy to do so. most prospective employers, whether they are a law firm, or a gas station will ask the companies you worked for about it. it can be a job killer even if only one. so why take a chance?

Read your job description. I am pretty sure it will say "Other duties as assigned" on it which in your case includes cleaning restrooms.

You never know. . .
Unless you know the OP personally you might be giving him way too much credit ;)

Never burn bridges. Do the smart thing and give 2 weeks notice.

how long has OP been working there? if its been a short time, just quit. don't bother with 2 weeks notice.

I've been working there for 3 weeks.

just say i quit. not even worth it

Again. . . horrible advice IMO. Things have a way of catching up with you sooner or later.

If that is true then these are the years when he is becoming the man he is going to be for the rest of his life. Learn good moral work ethics and character early. Start now and you will be ahead. Do the right thing or the wrong thing. . .either way, people will remember what you did.

He's only worked there for 3 weeks. If I were him I wouldn't even list it on my resume. Then you don't have to worry about it coming up in future interviews. If they ask what he was doing for 3 weeks (which I doubt they will) he can just say he was interviewing for jobs.

Just quit and be done with it. If you give a 2 week notice, they'll just make you clean bathrooms for 2 weeks.

You're also out one potential reference. You are far more likely to receive a good reference if you treat people right. It's understandable you are unhappy (though you sound like a stuck up priss who's afraid of getting his hands dirty) but that is not license to ****** on the guy who was good enough to take a chance on hiring you in the first place.

Or he could do the stand up thing and depart amicably with 2 weeks notice, then he has a potential reference for use when seeking future employment as opposed to nothing at all from the experience.

Well, as mentioned, lots of crappy jobs include periodic janitor work. If you're too good to do that, then just quit. I doubt it will really hurt them if you just don't show up and call in and tell them you're not coming back...Depending on where you live, (since your profile says Nova Scotia, USA) you may have to wait until your next regular payday for that last paycheck, OR, they may have to have one available for you within 72 hours of quitting. I will never clean up anyones sh!t except my own. Some of the responses in here shock me, I'm glad that I have never and will never take a job like that.

But it does sound like this is your first job or something. When you quit, you should give a 2 week notice. As your reason for quitting, be upfront and say that you do not like cleaning the bathroom. Also someone said to have a new job lined up already, that is very important and you should try and do that.

Because they want to see if you had any long periods of unemployment which could indicate problems about which you might not be totally forthcoming. They really don't expect that night shift manager at Taco Bell from 10 years ago to still be there let alone remember you. But they will verify that you did work where you say you did when you said you did.

Or, you can live on a kibutz like i did for 4 months. you get lots of experience with toilet cleaning, and plunging! :D Think of it as being one of those valuable experiences that seem terrible, but come in handy later. :)

I can't remember the last time I had to put in my 5 years working at Burger King and Toy R Us. I busted my butt working there thinking someone would actually care when I apply for a job in the future.

If you need them as a reference, give them 2 weeks notice, otherwise just tell them you found another job and need to start immediately.

Boomers is not a stupid theme park. My friends and I go there. Mini-golfing, go-karting, laser tag does still rock.

That said, write up a two-week notice and turn it in today.

hmmm, i've never had to or have cleaned a bathroom for any job I've been in. Then again, I've never worked in the service industry b/c I can't deal with a-hole customers such as, myself.

But this is what you do: crap on your boss's desk, then take a piss on his/her leg. Whipe your ass with your notice letter then immediately hand it to your boss--make sure the boss witnesses this. It may not be tactful, but they'll get the message!

OOPS you clicked on the wrong forum, this isnt P&N. cleaning a bathroom has nothing to do with illegal aliens. thanks.

I've been working there for 3 weeks.

Don't say anything (unless you want to) just don't go in anymore!
And as far as future jobs are concerned....DO NOT enlist in the service!!!!!

Oh good lord.... Just quit. Walk in, tell your boss you quit. Don't put that job on your resume.
