I've been searching through google and youtube to find one really cool laser pointer that has a visible beam and can pop balloons and light matches from some distance away. Whats the coolest laser pointer I can get under 200 bucks.

Novalasers Alpha.

Do NOT buy from wickedlasers.com!

Extremely dangerous (a child could pick it up thinking it's a flashlight and point it in their eye!). Will live a very short life if built as shown. (no VSP protection on raw VLD = bad). Beam NOT visible except in a fully darkened room or with smoke present. 532 nM will have the highest beam visibility and overall pointing visibility due to the way the human eye detects visible light in the green range.

I don't understand the appeal of expensive laser pointers. What do you do with them that makes them worth it?

Besides using them to point at the sky.

Different strokes for different folks. Some like to buy fast cars when the speed limit is 88km/hr. (legal limit for laser pointer use in a public area is <4.99mW, for example).

Some like to collect knives, guns, you name it. Some of us like to paint or grow things and even smoke the leaves of the grown stuff. 😉

DX is good but be warned their lasers do not have IR filters and the units outputting over 50mW can be very short lived if you're not careful with exercising strict duty cycle limits!

Read threads over on the forum I linked to above for more information on those lasers. You get what you pay for basically. (except with wickedlasers - they are the monster cable of lasers or even worse - they are just scammers! caveat emptor!)

A bunch of them (I'm in charge of sound and lighting on a cruise ship). I have an RPL300 and a 405nM BluRay portable (8mW).

Wow I am glad I saw this thread, I was going to buy a wicked laser and now I know it would have been a waste. Thanks Rubicon, I will get one from the link you provided, much cheaper!

wow I just checked that blu-ray laser, and that shit is expensive. Props to you man.

It gets expensive if you happen to have one of the new generation diodes that provide over 50mW CW power. Mine was made from a PS3 transport; total cost under $100.

Yeah right. Knowing you, it's probably more like 8MW.

😀

No, they're 100% legit and they have great customer service. Check other products. Real Cheap

Once I bought a pair of binoculars but one of the lens was off. They sent me another one without having me ship the defective one back.

I have a 100mw myself
