I want to play an "old-skool" game......

I have been wanting to play the original "Pirates!" for a long time now. Is there a version out there that will run on an XP equipped machine? Oh, and to keep this off-topic, what "old" (came originally on 5.25 disks) games have/do you want to play?

I want to play Doom1/2 and GTA1, all of which I have... but they run like crap on my XP rig. I have DosBox, but that slows the pc down too much, and they still run like crap. Any ideas? 🙁

I know noone else will remember this game - noone ever does - but I vote for an RPG called Wasteland - one of the only RPG's to hold my interest almost 200 hours to finish. . .

Was it text based?

What is this Pirates! Gold you guys speak of? Was it a remake of the original or is it exactly like the original?

Here is a review from a fellow player:
This is the first game, computer or otherwise, that I ever played. I grew up poor, so I had to go to my friends house to play on his pc. He had this sadistic dad that would make me get wood for the stove for two hours in exchange for one hour on the pc. Lets just say I chopped alot of wood at his house, escpecially since it took me 4 years to beat the game. Best 4 years of my life. This game made me the gamer I am today. I don't know what it is about this game that is so good. I think it is the total package. The character development model is still one of the best in any roleplaying game. It was completely non-linear. If you wanted to go to Needles at level one, you could. Of course you might die, but you could. It was your game, your characters, your world. Every time you play it could be different. My favorites things (for those who have played it): the Red Rider Rifle, advancement tone, finding a second power axe in Vegas, getting herpes from a game prostitut

There's a good chance they're one and the same.

The box actually only had "Pirates!" on it in word form with a gold coin after with the word "gold" on the coin...I'm not sure if it was supposed to be called "Pirates! Gold" but that's what me and my friends called it

...Yarrr!

Not quite exactly. Improvements here & there. You can notice the difference though.
