*<* I Want To Overclock My System...What Do I Do??? *>*

Ok i have decided to overclock here is my system, i will ask questions at the bottom of this post...


FSB: 133mhz

CPU: Intel PIII 1000MHz

Motherboard: ASUS CUSL2-C

Memory: 512 MB of Crucial PC133 Cas 2

Video Card: Visiontek 64mb (Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS)

Hard Drive: IBM Deskstar 75Gxp 30.0 GB @ 7200 RPMS

Additional Hard Drives: IBM Deskstar 75Gxp 30.0gb @ 7200RPM

Monitor: ViewSonic PF790 (19&quot

Ok my questions:

1. I currently have the stock heatsink on the processor, i know that will not be sufficient,what will be the best heatsink in my case, i have been looking at the globalwin fop32, the heatsink on the graphics card is stock as well, will that sufice?

2. How do i apply artic silver?

3. I am using 1003 final on my mobo, what steps do i actually take to overclock my system?

4. Do i need to change my voltages, if so why?

5. What are expected safe speed and settings in my case?

6. I already have thatstock heatsink on as you know, it isnt bad to install a new one now right?

7. I think my cooling is good, 4 80mm case fans, is there any other steps i should take? My current temps for cpu are 82 idle and 105 full load.

8. In overclocking if i would screw up i would just kill the cpu right?

1. Dont bother I doubt your cpu wont o/c enough to justify the risks(the 1GHz being the worst overclocker you can possibly buy)
2. Just put some of it on the core. real thin layer you want it to cover the entire core, you wont need it though keep the retail hs/f
3. You up the fsb
4. Yes because if you want to achever high, stable speeds you need to feed it more voltage.
5. Your cpu would be best left at default clock since it would require extreme cooliung to get a reasonable increase in clock speed.
6. As I said dont o/c and keep it
7. leave it alone if it's fine
8. No unless you power up without a hsf installed or with terrible contact between the hsf and cpu it will either crash or not post(in this case you use the clear cmos jumper on your mobo)
9. whatever you want then to. like cpu's every video card is diferent and will take diferent o/c's. If it crashes or you see anomalies just clock it down a bit. unless you try for exxesively high speeds(like 700MHz ram or something like that) you wont damage the card.

Yes thats right. it wont be worth buying arctic silver, a fop32 and installing it for the minimal gain you will have. Your video card will o/c fine and it will be worth the increase. Just concentrate on the ram mostly, upping the core wont do much. happy overclocking!

What do you have yours at, i have mine at 210/390, i could take it to 215/390 or 220/290, but it dont like higher than 390...

I dont have one . My v3 is clocked at 190/190(core and mem speeds are locked together)

If you reached the highest speeds you mem can take than just benchmark it and see if the core speeds makes a difference. Im pretty sure the core will take 220MHz.

On overclockers.com, it shows an average of 1192, as ocing from a 1000 piii, i think 200 mhz would be worth it, or does that require super cooling?

Super cooling and most of those guys probably dont even have a p3.
