<< The ceiling fans in the US are a waste of good technology.
They dotn do much more than more air around. You need a fan that can blow your nuts off.

Those kinds of fans come from India. There are some models that work in 110V (made for export). The fans run about 10x the speed
of the fans out here. Its worth looking into it.

Damn!!...I need one of those for my computer room. It's not like the noise would bother me since I already have 3 computers in here.

<< When I was little my brothers and I had great fun one day throwing socks at a ceiling fan and watching them get slung helter skelter. >>

we made a game out this our freshman year... pingpong dodge ball. you'd throw a ball at the fan, and it would get knocked back down going 90mph and you had not get hit by it. it was pretty fun.

(yes, we were drunk)

try these..

Edit: The problem with american fans is that if you put it the highest speed the whole house shakes..even in its highest speed it feels like the slowest you find in india. The problem is its never put on a solid beam..

With a solid foundation to hold the fan you can increase the speeds.

<< whydont you buy a floor or desk fan? >>

well, i've got one of those little box/window fans in the window... but the ceiling fan is just so the pathetic. i really want to help it out some.

the highest speed here is about the same as the medium/low setting on my ceiling fan at home.

<< seriously... its really slow and even at the highest setting it barely moves any air around. I know there has got to be a way to pump up the motor a little more... i'm not afraid of taking it down and screwing with the wiring. >>

1. add extension blade on every blades. Loger blade=higher linear velocity.

2. Change the motor. I don't know where you'd get an induction motor from though.

You could lighten the blades with some carbon fiber inserts, or you could strengthen the torsional strength of the blade ;)

We have some too. They're called air circulators...

<< Put it on a 220V line. >>

Wouldn't that fry the motor? And if he can't replace the fan, i doubt he could get a 220 line in his dorm. Can anyone say fire hazard?

I thought he might like some in-room fireworks.
