I want to move to a Tropical Paradise -- Suggestions?

I really like Anna Maria Island, FL -- I visited there when I was younger (I'm 24 now). Is there anyplace with reasonable rent? Are there certain seasons that are bad? I would like to live there year round. I have worked in retail Produce for 8 years, so I do know fruits and veggies; some major suppliers are in tropical locations. I would appreciate any information since I'm just starting my networking phase (in order to secure a job; I have a BSBA in Bus-Mktg). Thank you!

well i went there when i was young (like you). i don't remember much. they are mostly vacation spots, i believe, so i'm guessing most jobs will be in the recreation/tourism business

Going to live with my mom on the Greek island of Naxos this summer for two months. Fairly inexpensive there; Swedish and Danish women like to vacation there. The island has some of the best food in Europe. What's not to like?

well miami beach and south beach are great if you like that kind of stuff. great clubs, sexy people, nice beaches, etc. but i like lakes, mountains, snow, and snowboarding so i usually stay up north (where i go to school) most of the time.

Sanibel and Captiva Islands are extremely beautiful, but mostly populated by WASPs and tourists. There are really no major businesses there. Traffic is usually a nightmare from November through April (there is only one road on/off the Islands, and it's a toll bridge). IIRC there are maybe one or two major hotel chains located there, the rest of the lodging is smaller Rentals/Condos. Unless you want to commute to the Fort Myers area or your employer provides a place for you to live on-island, the houses/rentals are very, very expensive.

There is a great deal more more business/industry on Marco Island, although housing there is still fairly expensive (depending on where you are now).
Salaries in Florida are generally fairly low, but so is the cost of living in most areas.

If that area of Florida appeals to you (too hot for me during the Summer), look at Port Charlotte, Charlotte Harbor, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers , San Carlos, Estero, Bonita Springs/Beach and Naples.
