Hey guys, I'm all into this "do it yourself" phase right now, so I could use some advice(looks like Im not doing it entirely by myself :p).... anyway, I was wondering how hard this would be to do? I just want to be able to turn my fans on or off, and MAYBE adjust their speeds (that could be a later project). I have 4 on of switches right now, and I can buy 4 led's... what I want to do is make the light go on when the fan is on, and off when it is off...I guess my question is how should I wire it so I dont fry anything? Especially since the on/off button only takes in 2 wires, and the fans have four pin connectors (yes.. yellow 12, red 5v, right?)... anyway... I'd appreciate ANY help I can get.... and if I get a good design going I could whip a bunch of these up for a few dollars each if anyone wanted one...

Ok, this project took me the better part of a day to do, but I made a fanbus and baybus combo with dual voltages. It should only take you 2-3 hours tops to do this. If it's your first time maybe 4 hrs. If you just want to make an on/off switch style just use the yellow(12V) and black wire(ground). The other 2 wires are only useful if you plan on doing dual voltages like me. You'll also need 4 resistors for your LEDs. Um, go to http://www.virtualhideout.com for complete guides on this. He has pictures and step by step instructions which beats the hell out of me trying to explain the wiring scheme hehe.

I plan on having 2- 120mm fans in there that move 131.5 CFM of air at 45 db... I would like to be able to turn them down a bit.. lets say to half, but I would be connecting them both on the same switch (since one is outtake and one is intake, it wouldnt make a whole lot of sense to make them off balanced... can I just set up a switch that either uses the 12v and black, the 5v and black, or the nothing and the black? So I can have three settings instead of just on or off?

i made a dual led/dual voltage fan and baybus for my machine. i dont thing the rheostat bay buses are worth it... do you really need infinate voltage contol on your vans? my are setup in a 12V-off-7V setup and it works great! check the pics out with the link below...

Pics of my rig...

this took me awhile to get setup correctly (i had to bump the voltages down a bit for the leds). once i got the first one setup, it was easy. if you want i can get more detailed pics of the fan/bay bus. lmk if you need any help.
