Im sick of the radio, ive been woken up to the same load of trash for the past year, they always play franz ferdinand or the proclaimers ya theyre nice tunes but god damnit play something else for a change.

Anyways i want to make this laptop here my alarm clock. I have windows XP pro and what i need is:

1. For the computer to turn itsself on at a certain time

2. For the alarm clock program to start up

3. For the alarm clock program to play a song, or a playlist if possible! Playlist would be cool.

Thats all i need, how do i go about this? What alarm should i use? How do i make it turn itsself on?

Sweet, ill give foobar2000 a bash later on today.

As a stopgap ive used the BIOS wake up setting combined with "jakes alarm clock", it woke me up with flashdance just there. But the BIOS only has two settings which is weekdays and daily, no option for just 1 day, so the thing will turn itsself on every day but jakes alarm will only play on mondays.

Beats the damn radio :p

it has a wake from standby feature so you dont need to leave the laptop on.

for something simpler:

Thanks for the clear instructions. I just finished configuring it there and it works well, it can even minimize to tray! What a great media player.

It's the best media player out there, that's for sure.

 I use the same foobar + scheduler combo. Since I started doing this I haven't missed a morning class yet.

Scheduld task. My laptop wakes me up every morning to Del Amitris "Lets Kiss This Thing Goodbye" via Realplayer. Easy to do. For the computer to turn itself on i Hibernate mine at night and my scheduled task starts the computer in the morning

Or you can find an NPR station. I figure I've learned at least 100 facts about the world between snoozes. :)
