I want to learn to speak Spanish fluently

I took classes back in school so I have some understanding of the language. However, I would like to learn to speak it fluently. Do you know of a good program to teach me?

Rosetta Stone isn't bad (I'm using it for Russian, Spanish and Portuguese atm).. it uses a much different method of teaching than any class you've most likely taken. Whether or not it works for you is kind of up to how you learn best.

Essentially it introduces words and phrases and conjugations without telling you that you're conjugating or explicitly telling you what the word means, you basically have to use context clues in the pictures it shows you to decide if something is plural or singular, whether it's masculine or feminine, etc. It gets you familiar with speaking and recognizing these things before you even realise you're supposed to be recognizing them.

mobility? move to spain or south americas where you can live there. you will learn real fast. My friend lived in Brazil for 1 year and she is totally fluent in portugese now.

+1 for so cal, and move into Chula Vista, National City, Spring Valley or El Cajon, those are all full of mexican stores all over and it might helpt o visit them often.
 
Bottom line .. to be fluent you need full immersion. Whether it's finding someone close with whom you can speak daily, or moving to an area where Spanish is spoken more heavily. I, too, took 5 or 6 years of Spanish in school and I was pretty good at it. I wanted to brush back up now that I've been out of school for a few years and I found Rosetta Stone to be almost worthless. It was a nice reminder of things, but I don't think of it as actually "teaching the language" as much as "teaching one to recognize/stumble through it."

What level did you try? It doesn't start to get worthwhile until you reach the second disc. It's also very unhelpful at first if you've had experience before.

You got that right. I've learned a lot of Spanish from my g/f who speaks both english and spanish fluently. I realize this is not ideal for everyone but having a significant other who speaks another language can help tremendously, especially when they're talking to you in another language while getting it on. 😱
 
Program that dumps you in a Spanish speaking country with no one who speaks English. Books, TV and theory are all fine and dandy, but until you're forced to use it, you won't really learn.

I'm a firm believer in the fact that someone can't become fluent in a language unless they "live" it. Sure you may know proper grammar and have a huge vocab but if you've never experienced the language with a native speaker, I'll bet that your first encounter will be completely humbling...
