As a kid, I always held the bat as a leftie would, but batted right. Then in Little League, it went thru half the season before the coaches noticed that I held the bat wrong. I didnt know, I was a decent base hit hitter, thats all I cared. They made me switch to leftie hitting and it was just sotra natural for me anyway. I did have to practice leftie for a few weeks and bacame as good a base hit hitter as right. They started using me as a switch hitter but I always went to bat right with left handed grip and got yelled at often and told you're gonna break your wrists, how the hell can you even hot the ball that way blah blah blah.
Dont use the same grip as you practice your off side hitting, mine was peculiar cirucumstance. Use those ball on a string hitting apparatus and practice, practice, practice............ and practice some more if it doesnt come to ya.

And that title does warrant all the jabs you get in this thread BTW......... ;)

jokes aside...

I was taught to bat left handed growing up because that is what my dad knew to teach. I am right handed and play golf right handed. Batting left handed, I have very little power in softball. This year I chose to try right handed in softball and while it feels awkward, I find that I have a lot more power. I also have stuck out swinging this year which really sucks.

I have had success because I switched to by strong side. If you are switching to your weak side then expect it to feel awkward, and to have less power initially.

I'm a switchhitter at the plate (though I never played organized baseball). My lefty stroke is more refined and better looking than my righty swing - but the latter is my stronger side. What is it with lefty swings that make it look so much better/natural ? I hit liners at the cage with it all the time...

Do you think switch hitting is beneficial? How many players switch hit that are actually any good?

You get to 1st base quicker if you hit from the left side. Think about that though.. it's technically the right side. ;)

Play the percentages... lefty hitter can usually see the righty pitchers better and vice versa.. so they say... I really don't know... I've never faced a Major League pitcher. As for the proven players, I believe Eddie Murray is one of the best all time switch hitters... his stats say that.

Anyway, I hate baseball... as of 1994, it doesn't interest me.

I can switch hit and I did it all through high school, each side has its advantage. If you practice batting on your weak side you will get good at it eventually. Get a bat that's lighter than your normal one and hit the batting cages. Start out easy and stretch beforehand so you don't pull something. I wasn't naturally ambidexterous but I turned out to be a ~.350 hitter on my weakside after lots of practice throughout high school compared to ~.475 on my strong.

ewwwwwwww.

But yeah, I can hit right-handed and left-handed. I'm right handed, right footed, etc. Hitting left handed isn't that hard though, it's more connecting with the ball than the power of your swing.
