All The Right Type + a cut out cardboard box to put over your hands. It is torture for the first bit, but once you learn you will have no regrets.

I learned to type by touch after playing games for so many years.

The box over your hands is probably your best bet, in combination with a typeing class or a program.

A good keyboard also helps. :)

I learned by just forcing myself to not look down at the keyboard when I'm not in a rush to get something typed up. You'll naturally learn the most commonly used words first (like "the" and "is"). You'll make lots of mistakes, so figure out where you backspace key is without looking. After a while, it'll become second nature.

Typing of the Dead

Sounds corny but have read some good reviews.

I've heard the same. I still think Das Keyboard is a better option. Besides, where else will you learn by instinct where the dollar sign key is?

the best and cheapest way to do it is to simply cover your hands while you type, either with a shirt, paper, box, anything to get between you and the keyboard.

Easy... just stop looking at the keyboard when you're typing. If you've been using a computer long enough, your brain should already know where the keys are. Try replying to this message without looking down, and I bet that you'll be able to pull it off! I also learned how to use a computer by "hunt and peck" typing when I was really young, and I still don't do the whole home row thing correctly. This made my typing teacher angry, but I can still type at a decent 50 words a minute with just a few mistakes a minute. Good enough for what I do.

Yea I guess covering my hands is the best way to learn. I see myself needing copious amounts of alcohol to deal with the frustration LOL

Thanks for the suggestions-

I don't think just covering your hands is gonna do it. Certain fingers should be used on certain keys. Unless you use some kind of training program you won't learn the right way.
