I want to learn about cars

I want to get a job as a web producer for a car information website, but I'm a noob when it comes to cars. (I didn't even know until 10 months after I got my car that I was supposed to get its oil changed every 3k miles.) I'm pretty confident in my web design skills but since the job I'm applying for is a car website, it'd probably be a good idea for me to learn about more cars. So I was wondering: what websites/books/sources would you suggest for me to learn about cars from?

Have your car break down when you need it to go to work. You'll learn pretty quick.

I learned by fixing my car a bunch. But it is non-fuel injected and a four banger that is really simple to work on. I open the hoods of new cars and don't know where to start, more and more you need professionals. The major components of an engine are quite easy to understand, though, you could probably have it down in a half hour.
