We have 3 PCs and 2 of them are hard wired to a Netgear router. The third one is in a location that might be difficult to run a cat5 cable to. Is there a way of hooking just one PC up wireless? With a transmitter and receiver?

Hook up a wireless access point to the router, and get a client card for the PC. (PCI or USB, USB is usually better because the antenna isn't stuck behind your case)

The cheapest standard (802.11b) is 11Mbps, so yes it's fast enough for gaming. I'd suggest going with the newer 802.11g though, much quicker for file transfers...

You can get routers that are both wireless and have 4 10/100 ports for PCs in the same room (so those have full speed/won't have trouble gaming at all). I'm about to buy this one.

I'll just use a cat5 cable and my PC will have a wired connection while the PCs in other rooms that will just be surfing/email/AIM will have wireless connections.

Hmmm. I did not really want to replace my router as well. I guess I'll have to find some way of getting a cat5 cable to it. Thanks guys!

You don't have to replace your router to use a wireless access point or wireless router. I'm using a Microsoft MN-500 in bridging mode for my wireless connections, but I'm not using it as my router.
