Hi All,

Yes I have searched the forums and the internet, I just want to hear about your experiences with SATA. Most of us have used PATA drives in the past and have made the switch to SATA or are thinking about it, like me. I have been using WD Caviar drives faithfully for a while, and want to know what kind of real world benefits I would see from adding a SATA drive. I would be adding the drive with my PATA, and using my leftover PATA as an external drive. I don't plan on RAID, but I may in the future if I have one SATA drive to start with.

I just want to hear from you guys what it is that makes SATA a better choice, and if you guys think it is worth going in that direction. Prices seem to be equalizing so now may be a good time. All your input is welcome:)

In my opinion the drives seem a little faster and also no more IDE cables, round or flat, which decrease airflow.

Thanks for posting that link john, looks like SATA is the way to go... it would be much, much more efficient to use the SATA drive as my system drive with programs, right?

Wow, there seem to be a lot of nice SATA drives out there... any recommendations?
How about those 7200.7 Barracudas, or the Hitachi Deskstars... what about the WD with the 16MB buffer... there are so many more SATA drives than PATA, makes it tough.

Probably in the area of $130... got a recommendation? I'm looking at something like a 250gb, I see good deals on them all the time. Thanks.
