I want to go back to school...

So, I have a decent job. I'm an analyst for a marketing firm, I work out of my house and have great hours. Here's the problem, I'm pretty much stuck in my current position and topped out in money. For my location, I make above average money so its worked out good thus far.

I have had 3 jobs my entire life and I've been working since I was 16 and never been without one since. The job I had before my current position led to where I am at now....

I would like to go back and get a degree. I've never been and I never took the ACT. What are the possibilities of me being able to go back and do this without having to go during the day? I figure it would take ~8 years this way... but that's OK. I need to do this as an example to my kids and even more for me. I've always been mad at myself for not going and suffered some self confidence because of it. Although, I am very happy with my life now. I have a great wife of nine years and a beautiful Daughter and Son. So I know it wouldn't have worked out this way if I had gone.

Check out University of Phoenix's online bachelor's program, or a similar college. They pretty much let you study/do your work when you have the time. Don't ever have to set foot in a classroom, which is awesome.

sounds like you can do everything from your computer but i'm not sure.

Yeah, but you get points for actually looking it up.

I?d encourage you to look at some local universities as well. Many offer programs for new or returning adult students, even if not clearly advertised. Admission guidelines for these programs are almost always different than those of brand new freshman, and most offer weekend, evening and online courses now.

yes, look into local schools first.. you'd be surprised how many have finally understood not everyone can go to school during the day.

This is the route I took when I was the same age as the OP. Sure I won't graduate until 2011, but I will have a degree( 8 years to complete). I had the exact same motivation as the OP, as I can see the elimination of my job in the next 10 years.
I also have two kids and go to school part-time. It will not be easy. Make sure your spouse is completely on board with you doing this as it will affect them as well.

Usually, the entrance requirements are different for adult students. I know for me the ACT/SAT was waived, as well as any Health/Phys. Ed. requirements.

In our area a lot of the technical colleges have a 2+2 year agreement with the four year schools also. That way you pay technical college prices for the first two years and an associate degree with a 100% credit transfer to the 4 year school.
For our area that is a savings of about $15 to to 20G all said and done.
