yep. It is a lot of hard work, and not always perfect, but it is worth it.

Well yeah, many of us enjoy being married. But did any of us decide to get married because we were "bored" and "like to snuggle?" I certainly hope not.

Together with my BF nearly 4 years. Not going to get married until everything is stable in terms of career, finances, personal goals, etc. We could be dating for 20 more years!

Everyone has their own reasons to get married :p
I did because i really like the guy i was with, we knew we could live together and wanted to buy a pretty dress ;) (that last part really didn't matter)
Truthfully, marriage was always special to me and i wanted to share that bond with my husband and let the whole world know how much i was in love.

A buddy of mine, for reasons I cannot to this day understand, went out and got a Mongolian mail order bride. Try as we might, we could not convicne him that what he was doing (the mail order thing, not the marriage thing) was a dumb idea. He now lives in a 1 bedroom apartment with pretty much her entire family, who started comiong pover to live with them after about 6 months.

That said, he had everything he wanted from her set down in a written contract, rigjht down to how many times they had to have sex a week, how often she had to bathe, just about everything. It was really funny and yet really dissturbing at the same time.

As for being married, My wife and I got hitched when we were 25 and are still going strong almost 4 years later. I concur with others in this thread though in that you shouldn't get married just to get married. It is not a cake walk, but the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses IMO. Just make sure you know how to communicate with one another and actually do communicate. Marriage is much easier when everything is out in the open, because if you don;t know about it, you can't fix it.

In addtion, you have to consider your situation man. Your 22. Your in college. There is literally no other time (unless you go to grad school) where you are going to be surrounded by single "free-range" poonanny like you are now... So if nothing else you should stop moping about, pick yourself up, and go hit on women like no tomorrow, because out in the real world you aren't going to be in many situations where the ratio of women your age to guys your age is 1:1 or greater then 1:1. Take advantage of it while you can, and if you find the right girl while doing that, you'll know.

You know, every time I read one of these "I wanna get married" thread I'm totally blown away by the anti-marriage sentiment on ATOT...

::Contemplates typical ATOT poster for a while...::

Oh wait, nevermind, I'm not surprised at all.

***Disclaimer***
Yes, I am happily married.
Yes, marriage for the right reasons is a wonderful thing.
No, I am not the typical ATOT poster.

Pffft, don't let anyone rag on you. Just make sure that you don't get married just because you want to be married. Get married because you love your girlfriend and want to be with her forever. Getting married for the sake of marriage isn't a good idea.

Nor is getting married for the sake of sex, power, or money. Just think, when two people get married, they are usually at the very peak of their attractiveness (fit, dolled-up, looking good, etc.). It only goes down hill from there usually.

yeah, i wanna get married. been dating this girl for 1.1 years. i'm gonna wait till she and I are outta college and then get hitched. it SUCKS waiting cause im 2.5hrs north of her now (had to move for school) but she moves up here in october...till then im alone and just get to talk to her on the phone. idk what everyone's problem with getting married is. also, i guess another strike i got against me is that we're both pretty young (sub 20s) and stats. show that those marriages fail the most.

Wait until 30.

i wanna be able to run around with my kid and still be semi young for him/her. in a perfect world, i would be out of college by 21 and hope to start my life around that time. i'd like to have a kid by 24.

While that is a very admirable goal and can be very rewarding, depending on where you live and what else you want out of life having a kid that young can be very hard. I'm not saying its not doable or anything, it most certainly is, I just caution you to make sure your finances are in order before you do so. I've had a bunch of friends whose kids have bankrupted them, literally, because they do not have control of their finances. Having a kid when your 27 or 28 will still allow you to be young and run aound with them (they'll be 12 and you will be 40, which is still young these days), and you will have had mny years to develop your career and be able to provide for your family much better then you would at 24.

Granted, money isn't everything, but seeing as how I grew up in a household that was basically torn apart over money, I can personally attest that making sure you are financially stable can be a very important part of having a happy family.

In the alternative, start investing in the market now. You would be amazed at how your moneys you save at 18-19 grows over 40 years.
