I've been out of collecting sports cards for a couple of years. However, this season I have gotten the bug and want to start collecting again. Right now I just want to concentrate on baseball. I went and bought a new Beckett and tried searching the web, but I need some ideas on what are considered the best sets to go with. What would be some good packs I should start buying first? I don't plan on collecting for money, but I would like to get some rare cards. Any ideas on what to go with, Upper Deck SPx, Donruss, etc? Thanks for the help.

It's not worth it anymore.

There are too many cards for any to be worth anything. The card packs are ridiculously expensive, too.

That's what I was worried about. I went looking for prices and an unopened box of Upper Deck SPx is $125 and it only comes with 72 cards. Maybe I might skip on this afterall.

What type of collecting do you like to do?

Sets?
Inserts?
Favorite players?

I have an assortment of the above, but my favorite cards are rookie cards and autograph cards of my favorite players.

I looked into my old collection of baseball card and fold a Barry Bonds 1986 Topps. How much is that worth nowadays?

I used to collect too...got lots of autographs and rookie's...even some autographed rookie cards. Both hockey and baseball. Only problem is, I have no kind of verification that they are real since I went up the player and got the autograph myself. This makes them worthless...or else I would have sold them off already.

example..how much do you think a mint autographed Eric Lindros rookie card is worth? no idea really...just curious

Prices are crazy. I used to be a really hardcore collector of baseball cards, and I still have all the oldies and goodies, I plan on keeping a hold of them too. Every once in a while I take a look at the cards to see what kinds there are now. I see these packs of 5 cards going for $3.99, its just crazy.
