For 20+ years of my life, I've never suffered from ANY forms of allergy. I always laughed at those poor victims in agony and was amused by thousands of antihistamine ads on TV.

But all that changed three years ago....

My eyes get super itchy and my nose turn into a running faucet the moment winter lets up. After a long dreaded winter, my eyes get itchy the FIRST day it reaches 50 degrees. (as early as late March) and continues for about 5-7 weeks. Then I'm completely fine for the summer and the year.

Excuse my frantic state, I'm about to stab myself in the eyes.. Sometimes it gets so bad from rubbing, the white part of the eyeball turn into swollen blankets and they actually prevent me from shutting my eyes completely.

Now here are some fvcking questions:
1. They say seasonal allergy is caused by genetic predisposition... Then how the hell have I been perfectly okay just until three years ago!?! What?! My body just decided to grow a weakness?

2. What exactly am I allergic to? Super-early spring time indicates it could be grass pollen... Do people in tropics suffer from 'seasonal allergy'? If I moved to Hawaii where it's 85 degrees all year around, would I still suffer from allergy during March/April?

3. Allegra, Benadryl & Claritin doesn't work. I'm taking Claritin now and I don't know if it's working by reducing the potentially utter hellish symptoms or just not working because I'm suffering pretty badly already..... What do you recommend???

I don't know but when I was a kid, I suffered from Asthma attacks triggered by allergies - and I grew out of them and haven't had an attack in 6+ years. Hell, I don't even have a reaction to those allergies anymore.

Also, does Hawaii have a wet and Dry season? Your allergies could be triggered by a certain plant that only pollenates once a year....

I used to be lactose intolerant when young... I remember thinking, "why does my stomach sting and hurt everytime I drink milk?"

Now it's perfectly gone... Our body is messed up.

I'm not in Hawaii, I'm in New England. :) (read again)

I'm not allergic to anything that I know of, but I think I'll refrain from making fun of those that are. :Q

You absolutely can NOT itch, it only makes it worse later on. Try some eye drops, other than that theres not much you can do. I do this thing where i flick my eyelashes with my fingers, im not sure why but that distracts me from the itch and it doesn't hurt my eyes. The ideal thing to do is stay in air conditioned rooms.

i've experienced it. the first couple years of seasonal allergy was the worst. get some medication... it feels like you physically have stuff tucked under your eyes! you need some eye drops too.

you are allergic to most likely tree pollen, its high in my area, and I am from MA too. you should use some allergy eye drops, I use baush & lomb Opcon-A eye drops, and they work great! oh and I also use this thingy called NETI POT to clean my nasal, google it. ;)

ppl can't read today?

I'm suffering frmo allergies too :p.
Try visiting the doctor. if it's that bad, they'll give you a shot. I got 2 huge shots up through the insides of my nose one year cuz it was so bad and it cleared it right up.
also don't rub your eyes, it'll make it a lot worse. I don't touch mine even if it gets all watery and itchy.

Look into Zertec, Nasocort? and there are several others.

Finally someone that has eye allergy symptoms as bad as mine...over the years I have rubbed my itching eyes so much that I don't have many eyelashes and I've stretched my lousy eyelids.

Get allergy vaccines.
I used to get really bad allergies in the spring, now they're just mild at worst.
Also my nose doesn't water at all in the winter anymore.
The allergy vaccines are extremely painful though when you take them at a high concentration, and you have to take them once a week.
But I think it's worth it considering you never have to deal with it anymore.
My arms swelled up daily from the vaccines for two years after I had them, accompanied by a burning itch. Still worth it though :)

1) yes, as you grow older, your body does change and becomes more susceptible to things it wasn't before. I noticed that with my ability to ingest MSG. I can no longer eat a lot of it as I will get migraines where I didn't used to (grew up on chinese foods). My brother-in-law made the same complaint about getting allergies this year and never before. It's also said to be much worse this year (getting worse every year I believe).

If you're scratching like mad, try some ice ... I find it's the global cure. :D

for your eyes you can try some otc drops called naphcon a. if thats not strong enough, visit an eye doctor and get some prescription drops, ie. patanol or zatidor.

1. Your body chemisty can affect allergies. Perhaps your chemical balance has changed slightly in the past few years. A tiny change can make a large difference.

2. I don't know what you are allergic to. I still have seasonal allergies here in Phoenix.

3. None of those worked for me either. About a month ago I found something that has, so far, been fantastic for me. It's completely natural but can't be sold directly to consumers. It's available only through doctors or other healthcare professionals. It's made by Standard Process and it's called Antronex.

Here's a link about it: Antronex PDF
