One review on NewEgg claims you need to reinstall XP to get your HDD to work with this Gigabyte motherboard...is this true?

eek, the more I read the bad reviews of this motherboard the more I begin questioning whether I should get this mobo..

If you don't want gigabyte mobo, there are alternatives, such as Abit IP35-E.

Don't understand about HDD...when you put a new system together it's best to do fresh install of operating system anyway...

edit: as for how long it will last you, I'd say its a good bet of 3 years with MAYBE one video card upgrade.

For example about 3.5 yrs I built my AMD socket A (socket 462) system for about $900 all in all. It had AMD 3200+ 32bit processor and 2x512mb RAM and ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card.

In 3.5 years I upgraded video card to nVidia 6800GT and power supply to accomodate new video card. Later I swapped my 19" CRT for 22" LCD and still gamed.
Now my brother games on that system still on a 19" CRT

I checked the Abit one out too but now I'm totally undecided on a mobo..I might just wait it out for now..
