Nordstroms Rack and Off Saks 5th have great name brand suits for a good price. Cheapie suits suck.

Most sites seem to push navy suits over other colors. Is there a reason for that? I personally think I would prefer a black flat front, single breasted, 2-3 button suit. Still not sure on which brands to look at though. It seems like the recommended material is 100% wool.

I'm short @ 5'8 and stocky so maybe a pin strip suit would best fit my needs?

What's the occasion? Something specific, or something you'll want to be adaptable for years to come? A suit you described (black, single-breasted, 2-3 button) is the most versatile suit there is - it will work for any occasion. I suggest you read up on the articles available at MensWearhouse.com.
