I bought my wife's (we've been married for two years) engagement ring off of eBay, and I don't regret it at all. I bought the diamond ring off eBay for about $775, and then took the stone immediately to a jeweler to get it appraised and make sure it wasn't a fugazi. The stone was appraised at $3500! I also paid about $200 or so to get the stone reset in a nicer band then it came in. There's really not much risk if you buy from a reputable seller with thousands of feedback, as I did.

eBay is the devil when it comes to jewelry.. stay away.

Plus, what if your fiancee checks your feedback someday and finds out you got it there?

Is she the type that would be okay with it or does she need something of higher standards?

Don't lie about where you get it whatever you do.. you'll get in more trouble than its worth that way.

well i figure i could get her a BETTER diamond with the money spent on ebay if the savings are great enough

Sorry but you're just thinking about the $$ to much, just get her the best you can afford locally and if you need to save up some more then do so.

Just shop around the local jewelry stores or wait a month until Labor day sales and buy then since all the stores do big sales on holidays.

One word: Moissanite

If what you are buying has no flaws and perfect color it is likely not a real diamond...unless it is uber expensive of course.

Buyer beware. There are all kinds of unscrupulous sellers online. I don't think I'd buy this sort of thing online.
