I remember either here or FW was talking about buying a diamond engagement ring off ebay for his fiancee... he said he bought it from an independant israeli dealer and got a much better price on an engagement ring than he could from a store. The dealer also allowed the buyer to return the ring if it didn't meet his expectations or if the appraisal wasn't worth as much as the dealer said it was.

What do you guys think about this? It's quite an expensive purchase for ebay for me so i want to be careful... are there better options than ebay? Also, i know next to nothing about diamonds and how good a quality they are from all the stats they have on those pages so i need some help here.

I'm in love with this girl and i really want to get her something special.

If it was me, I wouldn't do it. Surely, you can find a decen deal here in the States, maybe even where you live. After all, you hope it's the ring she'll wear for the rest of her life.

Sind a muney ordr to ma adres an Nigeria, I wall sind you the rang. ;) :p

Don't do it. Plenty of places in the States. Might I suggest artificially made diamonds (REAL Diamonds, they just don't support third world dictators in Africa). Plus these diamonds are also pretty well priced for what you get.

I agree, how weird would it be if she found out you actually bought it on eBay? She would possibly be upset and/or offended.

You can use ebay like myspace now? How did you meet this girl off of ebay? Bid on her auction and send her some flirty messages and fall in love?

When it comes to women: It's not what you buy, it's how much you spend.

Women have a built-in radar for this sort of thing, they know when you have put maximum effort/money into something and when you have taken short-cuts (even if it was with good intentions) and they will make you sorry for it.

Don't worry about buying "a better ring," just buy the best ring, in new condition and from a real jewelers, that you can with the money you have.

Agreed. Even if it's a perfectly nice, quality ring, being bought on ebay just screams "cheapo." If she finds out, chances are good that she won't be too happy.

Find a reputable, local dealer (not a chain/mall store) and buy from them. Yes, you may pay a little more but you will get a quality stone, free cleanings and good deals on other fine jewelry if you buy other stuff from them in the future.

Support your local, independent sellers and they'll take care of you in the future. You're buying something that may be on her finger for a lifetime, not a hard drive. Don't purchase it on Ebay.

I think you?re crazy to buy something as important as an engagement ring off ebay. The downside to this proposition so far outweigh the upside I can?t even understand how you could consider it.

No, dumbass, I use eBay all the time, but I wouldn't buy a frigging engagement ring on it.
