I had read that the new corolla can match the 180 HP version of the corolla. Really that's so sad it makes me weep. OK phew I knew something had to be wrong 🙂 The GTS does 7.2 0-60 (still absolutely pathetic for that price). The GT must be doing 8.2 (which is the same as the corolla).

If you mean the corolla can keep up with the GTS celica, that's not true at all if you match transmission types.

People run high 14s with all stock 6 speed celica GTSs. There's kind of race in the community right now to see who can break into 13s with just bolt ons.

I don't know where you live, but around here, I have never seen a used RSX for sale - they move quick.

Well, in tucson az, theres plenty of dealers with a crapload of rsx's, but thats tucson. Its prolly different in other places, and im sure it is. But my god, celica's suck.

Not with 180 HP they don't! Car and driver clocked its 1/4 at 15.6.

c/d is wrong. People get comfortably mid 14s with just intake and exhaust. The car has 160 WHP, about the same as a WRX, but only weighs 2500 lbs.

browse around newcelica.org if you don't believe me.

You're telling me that the WRX takes a hit of nearly 70HP from drivetrain loss? I find that VERY hard to believe.

if i had 20k to spend, id get a WRX or RSX hands down. To me, those cars are well worth 20k. This guy is looking at a celica for the look of the car, he cares less for performance. So dood, look at it this way. A corola is a 4 door car, so its not "sporty" whereas a coupe is. The celica gt and corola are the same exact engine, so use that to your advantage at the dealership. Tell him you want a celica for the looks, not the performance. Tell him that you could easily buy a corola and get the same performance, but you want the celica's looks. Meet the guy half way, and he should lend you a nice helping hand. All dealers care about is emptying their lot. If a person with HORRIBLE credit can drive off in a Mustang GT, then its possible for you to cut a good deal for a celica GT. I bet if you try hard enough, you can get a new celica GT for $17-18k. Just push the point that your paying for the look, not the performance, and that you could easily buy a corola over a celica, but you want the look. He cant deny the fact that you know the cars performance abilities, hes gotta rid of the car, you just gotta work him like a lil biznatch. 😀

Well motortrend seems to have given it 15.2 and those guys drive it like nuts. The thing is dog slow compared to a wrx 🙂

I swear, you guys need to do your own googles. It's actually closer to 60 HP loss, and I didn't believe it at first but my friend who drives a WRX told me himself.

link

Stock WRX Max Wheel HP: 168.4hp @ 5731 rpm @12.1 psi
Stock WRX Max Wheel TQ: 171.8hp @ 3540 rpm

I have no idea how this idea came about that WRXs are super fast budget cars, they're not. When I see them at the track, they run like 15 flat. It's not a domestic slayer, it's just another quick import.

It's not really that much slower than a WRX when you consider that the magazines give optimistic times for WRXs. I suspect the manufacturers give the rags ringers to test. IRL 🙂P), celica GTS with bolt ons will easily hang with a stock WRX in the 1/4 and it pulls harder after that.

At the lights it will slay the GTS. If it is indeed possible for a gts to get high 14's it's something neither the C&D or motortrend drivers could do. The WRX has been seen doing 0-60 in like 5.9, something the GTS could only do being thrown off a cliff - like it deserves 🙂

It's actually 20K for the slow ones. 😛

VERY nice...is that the normal price they go for? If I was you, i'd jump on that...hell, if you don't want it, gimme the info so I can buy it 😛

Show me the link.

Don't be a tit, newcelica.org has a database of 1/4 mile times and almost none of them are inline with 8.2 sec 0-60.

If you want a real celica, pick up an early 80's GT with the 22RE engine and do a rebuild. RWD, durable as all hell, comfortable interior, and a great motor. New celicas are garbage.

ouch
It's a known fact in the WRX community that XS Engineering's dyno reads lower than everyone else's. Others read the WRX at ~180AWHP stock.

And 15's is not a normal time for a stock WRX. More like 14.5

Some of you guys are iniformed about the GTS.
People who know how to drive it, its virtually on par with the Type-S.

There is this thing called LIFT and if you can shift from 1st to 2nd and still land on LIFT, you can get some really good times. Its like VTEC with Honda.

That time is f*cking flat out wrong and you know it.

I've seen "normal" guys driving the Celica, oh wait that was a Toyota commercial. Seriously, a Corolla is a better buy than a Celica, it's not the coolest thing on the road, but it's a great car in the long run, and the insurance rate should be better than a Celica.
