I want this mobo so bad!

LOL at how the 875 scores better in every test but one (and it loses that one by only 0.26%) than the newer PCI-e/DDR2 chipsets.

I don't know why you say the Opterons are confusing. Basically the only entry level priced motherboard is this one:

Others are about double the price and add seperate memory banks for each processor.

Then you pick what speed Opterons you want
1.8 GHz = 244
2.0 GHz = 246
2.2 GHz = 248
2.4 GHz = 250

Way less confusing than AMDs desktop processor lineup.
 
yeah, until Intel gets its multiple bus system working for Xeon, they just can't compete against Opteron in the multiple CPU environment. Their slow, single 533 or 800MHz FSB just can't handle all the memory access and CPU crosstalk the way AMD's hypertransport links and integrated memory controllers can.
 
Well what about a video encoding workstation? For a file server, web server, Domain Controller etc.. I would most definately go for an opteron workstation though not sure what motherboard would be good for that. If I could find an opteron board that is this reliable (the board I listed), relatively high overclockability, and possible an Nvidia chipset (not a real nvidia graphics card fan but thier chipsets are killer).
