According to former Mars executive Alfred Poe, PB Max was discontinued due to the Mars family's distaste for peanut butter, despite $50 million in sales.

I don't think I ever had one. The pictures on Wikipedia don't have me convinced. The wrapper looks like an 80s retake on a 70s theme, and the candy picture is kind of ambiguous.

I can't say how relevant the artwork was on the packaging. But it didn't strike me as nostalgic when I enjoyed it. However, I was in middle school.


The taste had a heavy peanut butter bias. Rather than most PB stuff today that just enhances a caramel or cookie flavor.
Much better than Reese's peanut butter cups because it tasted like real peanut butter and not a flavored, fluffy confection.

I hope that answers some of the ambiguous thoughts.

That sounds like it has potential, but a lot of it rides on the peanut butter. I imagine Mars would do a reasonable job, but I hate cheap peanut butter candy, as much as I love good peanut butter candy.

I think you and I are level here. As far as mass, consumer marketed PB bars go, it was great.

And that's probably why I don't gravitate towards candy bars today. Don't like the taste. Only weak spot is Snickers.

I love going to gourmet mom and pop chocolatiers and getting an assorted bag if I get a craving.
