Could be a number of issues. Low boost, doesn't want to cook the engine.

Transmission issues probably the most likely reason.

This. Exhaust temps could easily melt the combustion chamber. Now if he put an after burner on it...

Jets have transmissions?

Well, this isn't the same thing, but Jay Leno has a Turbine car, and he has an automatic transmission from a Corvette attached. I suppose you could just manage by adjusting the throttle, but I don't know the full complexities.

How the fuck would I know why it's so slow? Probably because they're still testing it. But it's insanely obvious that there's no transmission attached to this thing.

So Isaac Newton, what is your theory?

I don't know nothin' about nothin', but it looks like a straight jet to me. All the thrust is coming from the engine, and not the wheels. I could be wrong though :^/

"doesnt want to cook the engine"

really..

then what exactly is the point in strapping a jet engine to the kart?

If you want to use it more than once and avoid that nasty ball of flame 6" behind you then, you either keep the pressure down or, invest in a titanium combustion chamber. If you maxed out his current system (I'm assuming he's burning propane), exhaust temps could easily hit 3000 F. way past the melting point of SS.
