First time with Verizon (ever I think).

I would like my Sprint Voice and Data Network back please. I love the Droid but Verizon's network here in Boston area is pathetic in comparison.

Never do I remember going outside EVDO with Sprint. I'm constantly stuck with poor 3G signal or switch to 1XRTT with Verizon.

That's interesting as Verizon's network is the best of any company and Sprint is right behind them.

The problem is, Verizon can't do shit if it doesn't have its own towers. Sprint just roams on Verizon when it can't find native signal.

And the other problem is that everyone on Verizon is saturating their network, much like iPHone killed the AT&T network.

VZW is saturating their network. AT&T has come back a great deal. A lot of flak comes from their terrible network at the iPhone 3G launch. Now I feel it's just a lot of exaggeration.

^ Download speeds are not relevant if you can't get a stable enough signal to even begin a download.

Notice the reliability rating. VZW is in the 70s-80s. If you look at the 2008 review AT&T was terrible. It's gotten a lot better. Gizmodo did a similar review and some other sites too. Quite consistent, all the results. If you take Boston's reliability numbers, Verizon sits at the bottom.

I think half the problems with AT&T stem with:

1) iPhone terrible RF (much like the N1 and now Droid Incredible... but who knows... maybe iPhone's antenna is worse)

2) Insufficient 3G coverage - The dead spots require handoffs to 2G. Handoffs are your highest chance of dropping calls.

But where I use my phone, 3G signal is strong enough that I don't drop. However I've dropped calls while driving though.

Any charts like that to include the DC area?

Also, for the person that said Sprint just roams to Verizon, remember that for data, Sprint roams to Verizon 2G. No 3G roaming, as far as I can tell. Also, the handoffs are absolutely awful.

Where i live in the bay area, verizon is nothing to brag about. You certainly dont get a good 3g signal most places

I have had the opposite experience here in Fort Collins, Colorado. When the iPhone 3GS launched we didn't have 3G locally except in some areas on the south side of the city, but calls were reliable and things were good - except slow on the data front. Since then, they rolled out 3G and things were even better, but over the last year the call quality has gone down, and number of dropped calls has gone way up. I get a dropped call about 1 out of every 6 calls, or worse, and the longer the call the worse my odds. If I'm not dropped then often the call quality will degrade to the point where I have to call them back. I generally have all bars and the "3G" icon on my iPhone. Calling my wife - also on AT&T - is even worse because odds are good one of us will get dropped. It's been really awful since about the end of Feb.

Probably this is just a couple of towers in the area, but my experience is the opposite - things were good and have gotten much worse in the last 9 months.

Maybe some people are complaining to complain, but in my case, I'm honestly contemplating going back to T-Mobile. The more I get dropped, the more irritated that I get. If I call AT&T, they either note it and tell me they are working on it, or tell me to reset my network settings... which doesn't help. At this point, I'm thinking about just paying off the ETF and giving up... I'll take EDGE on T-Mobile (and a lower monthly bill) over 3G on AT&T and dropped calls all the time.

True, but wherever I roam on VZW 2G (when I had Sprint) it was unlikely Verizon would even have 3G in the area because, well... Sprint didn't have their own tower there = more remote area.

I roam onto Verizon 2G for data a lot in Crystal City here in VA. Sometimes its a surprisingly strong signal in the very interior of buildings when Sprint's has dropped out.

ive been with vzw for more than a decade, and this past few months ive noticed a very large drop in quality. i roam when on my couch now, i get voicemails without a call at my desk. the 3g is spotty usually, and sometimes drops out for no reason at all. im hoping that changes soon or ill be looking for a better carrier.
