Ammo is getting cheaper by the day. You can now get 1000 rounds of Federal Lake City ammo for under $500 shipped to you.
Centurion .223 from Aimsurplus is under $400 shipped to you for 1000 rounds.

50 cents a round is not what I consider cheap. 40 cents is not either.

Back in November I paid 32 cents a round and that was after the election (during the rush).

Show me where you can get ammo cheaper that isn't steel cased.

I doubt you can get it cheaper, but that's still awfully expensive. I remember 1000 rounds going for under $200 a few years back.

Its hard to go wrong really. Find one reasonably priced and get it. Build your own if you want to save a few bucks.
I would highly recommend a flattop with removable carry handle. Theres a few mainstream builders (Bushmaster, LMT, Rock River) and dozens if not hundreds of smaller (Stag, CMMG). Most all will be a workable and reliable weapon.

I'd recommend against an AR-15 unless you have deep pockets full of money. Ammo is expensive and the AR just chews through it like nobody's business.

Plus for $200 you can get a .22lr conversion kit and shoot .22lr which is super cheap compared to .223/5.56

The cool thing about an AR is you aren't limited to one caliber.
You can convert to many different calibers.

They're all based from the same design. It's a very modular and accurate platform by nature, so if you don't like something about one, switch out that component. Alot of the price is governed simply by supply and demand, not the manufacturing involved. I mean, yeah it's possible to manufacture it poorly, but the majority of them are made quite well.

Agreed. Way too high. Prices are coming back down to reality since the election rush.

Most of them are going to be just fine. DPMS, S&W MP15, RRA, Stag Arma, Bushmaster, etc. If you want a piston one (like Ruger SR556) it's going to cost a big more of course.

Get something like a CMMG .22 LR bolt conversion if ammo is too expensive.

I want one too but I live in NY which has its own AWB. I think I can get one still with pistol grip and detachable mag, but it's limited to 10 rounds, no flash hider, and fixed stock only.

Plus I'm not sure how many places are around to shoot it at.

I can get them locally at the rip off store for $1400, I've seen them for $1250 at gun shows.
