Just curious: what type of job can you get with a philosophy degree?

You can sit at home all day, pondering your unemployment. :p But I dont mean to hate on it...I love philosophy, and learned a lot about it from school. But you dont need a class to teach you philosophy. You need an open mind, books, and patience. It will probably add more to your life than any amount of money.

You can teach, or go to law school, or go to medical school, or....that's it.

I'm going back to get a second masters part time just so I can defer my student (direct subsidized) loans and I might get one or two more after that since my employer will pay for it.

Anyone go back to school for a second degree just because they were interested in the material, rather than to try and help out with future employment?

why not just study philosophy on your own.

Philosophy degree = unemployment

My buddy with a CS degree(who's doing pretty well, I might add) is looking to go back to study oceanography or something. He loves scuba diving. I used to know a guy with a philosophy degree. He was a Novell admin.

Philosophy is boring if you have a bad teacher.

Learning Existentialism with a good teacher can be great, but not worth majoring in it....plus nobody employs you. It's good for Law School entrance though.

WATCH THE RECENTLY RELEASED "I LOVE HUCKABEES" ON DVD. REALLY FUNNY MOVIE ABOUT HOW PHILOSOPHY MESSES WITH YOU MIND. :D

And anyone posting things like

is unqualified to answer, since apparently they failed 3rd grade reading and are therfore unlikely to have much knowledge of college or degrees.

I'm working on going back to school to get a degree in Theology. Not to go into the preisthood, nor to be ordained, just because it's interesting and because I want the opportunity to teach later on. I say go for it.

Philosophy is excellent for pre-law, if one is interested in that. In general, philosophy majors have excellent written and analytical skills that are useful in many professions. When I first graduated, I had several job offers and ended up working in commercial radio for several years. Because of the logic/cogsci aspects it was not too far a strech into CIS from there.

Not I.

Do you have wealthy parents who are footing the bill?
