Is it legal in the US? Also, are they easier to take care of after their childhood?

And what's the most mentally stable type of primate? I heard that they can get wild once they hit puberty, and I want one that I can keep having even afterwards if it's possible

Yea
It seems like so much fun since they're such smart animals that can do a lot (since they have similar bodies to us)

Bananas are cheap too

i want a pet/helper monkey as well...I would pay a lot to have a pet monkey..so awesome
all i want to do is for him/her to be able to grab a beer/beverage from the fridge, and then be able to do the "AAH AAAAHHHH" monkey noise on demand...well a number of other monkey-like things too. I have a feeling this would be a big draw for the ladies.

I once wrote a story about a helper monkey who killed his two housemates in a creative writing class, that had dark themes in college...think maybe I should post this...

Dude, no. I'm putting a stop to this right now. NO.

Monkeys are unbelievably subject to various horrible diseases and injury, need extraordinarily specialized food, and constant, 24 hour attention. It will die in a week, max. One would cost a fortune, and I can't think of single species of monkey that it's legal to own without a difficult to get license in the first place.

My dad said his older sister had a monkey when they were small.. He said the monkey was annoying as hell.

You see.. Monkeys are smart - but they're also incredibly gross. If he didn't get enough attention, he would throw his shit out of the cage. If that didn't get him attention, he would stick his little pecker out of the cage and piss all over the room.

Also, he was loud as hell.

Are there any genetically bred monkies that won't do all this stuff?

My next door neighbor had a monkey who unlocked its cage, took all the owners shoes and tossed them in the dryer. The monkey then poured bleach on them.

I still want one though.

People who want pet monkeys better remember three things:

1) they smell (horribly!!!)
2) they destroy A LOT of things... it's like having a hyper and extremely agile two year-old in your house (think Spider-Man with an IQ of 20)
3) they are prone to catch any infectious disease you have... (i.e. cold, flu etc.)

Who doesn't want a monkey...

Well, according to a professional primaetologist (sp?) who studies lemurs (Anthropology professor), they can spread disease kids stick to you like glue, take dumps on your head, "ravage" you, etc. To me, they are a bit too smart, too agile and too well equipped (hands, legs, fingers) to wreak havoc.

I was bored one time and thought that a monkey would be a cool pet too, and i looked into it and this is exactly what i found out.

A monkey sounds like a cool pet, but is a horrible idea.

Come on, some monkeys Are great and viable pets. Think outside of chimps.

there is a specialized monkey species that are specifically trained to help the blind constantly at their home? I saw a long documentary on it. These are more like the smaller tree-monkey types. Not the full blown 120 lbs chimps.
