If you HAVE to spend $200, i recommand a pelikan pistol fill (the m200-m1000). m400 is around that price, when on sale it is about $150. if you are already spending that much make sure to get one with gold nib instead of gold plate steel nib.

now you can get many good pen for not much. if you want something modern take a look at the lamy al-star, they go for about $25 on amazon. I also recently bought 2 pistol fill Noodler's as gifts for about $16 each on ebay and I think they write smoothly for the price point. Although the fit and finish is horrible, it is very functional and solidly made and i trust it will out last many other pen at the same price point.

if you start read into some pen enthusiast's blog you are going to start to learn about some obscured NOS pen, and the hand made pens from india and such. Personally I have no experience with neither, but those varuna pens from india are very interesting.

Montblanc meisterstruck is sex in a pen. I was given one by an Austrian who I did some fundraising for and its the shizzle!

For my everyday pen I keep a cross on me and give them to clients all the time.

DurocShark (ShitSon on TFNN) makes handmade pens.

I came here to post this. If you aren't in much of a hurry KT, you may be able to talk to him and get a fully custom one made for you. You can get ball point or fountain with varying differences in look. He has gold flake, can get silver flake, and all sorts of different colored resins and such.

I know it isn't fancy, but for a throwaway, the Sanford uni-ball Onyx is fantastic.

i have had a few of these. i used them with "rite-in-rain" paper when i was coordinating for a search and rescue group, i use one in the field now also. It will write on wet paper, on frozen paper and will not smudge, it will write at -30F (i have tested it to this temperature) and a few min. later in my truck at 70F. It is not the smoothest but it tracks well and never clogs up or skips like other ball points.
