Ive been researching phones and it seems some of the best ones arent available from carriers here in the US. I like the Sony Ericsson K750 and the new 790 coming out. How come I cant get them here? What happened to the w600? Should I wait before getting a new one?

i use a k750 with cingular, it's awesome. just get a phone unlocked.

Would it be worth it to spend the extra money and get a w800 or spend less and flash a 750?

the w800 and k750i are basically the same phones. the w800i adds an extra walkman button. you can even flash the k750i to a w800 firmware. i like the look of the k750i more imo. it's more sleeker and looks more high class.

only 2 phones but they are slick. Didnt know they were there own service provider. Anyone use them? I would hate to go to a new carrier and hate it.

they're not their own service provider. they use CMDA (verizon). don't bother with their phones unless you're a myspace junkie.

Before buying new phone I'd call Cingular and ask them what frequency they use in your area. While all areas should utilize 1900MHz to some extent, some areas that were served mostly by AT&T wireless prior to Cingular buyout were heavily relying on 850MHZ band. Not all unlocked phones, including K750 have 850MHz band built-in, and you may experience spotty reception.

For the US you should get w810i, not w800, for the extra band the w810i uses.

well ther are tons of new ones on ebay. I just mean as far as who to trust. Its not like I can get one from best buy or someplace I can trust.

its between the 750 and 810 I guess.

k750i = GSM 900/1800/1900 (triband)
w810i = GSM 850/900/1800/1900 (quadband)

you should call t-mobile to see what band they support in your area.

the w810i is about $400-500. for that price, you could get a nice smartphone. have you took a look at those phones?

blackberry to sony ericsson, interesting. i noticed you live in NY. i bet you if you go to a mobile store in china town, you'll most likely find k750i and w810i.

if you want to stick with t-mo and renew your contract, you can probably get the w810i for under 200, i'd say its worth negotiating for around 170.

You can get a k750i for <$50 if you sign a new contract with T-Mobile. as for flashing a k750 to a w800i, it costs 12 bucks and once you do that you are stuck to that firmware since you can NOT update if sony rolls out a new update. If you try to update it will make your phone a k750i again. Trust me.. i did it >_<

Get the W810i, Quadband and put a 2/4 gb memory stick in it and have an MP3 Player/Phone all in one.

I got the w810i and got rid of my Ipod Nano, 2.0 MP camera, mp3, quadband, and SE quality.

I suggest Myworldphone.com and Plemix.com.

If you want, you can wait for the K790 which is more for camera use then mp3's because it uses a smaller type of memory card but it has a 3.2 mp sony cam.

The w900i is also a great phone but only triband so you need tmobile for it, no cingular. It has ~450mb onboard memory, Nvidia 4800 GPU for 30 fps movie playback and the same mp3 and camera capabilities as the w810i.

I went for the 810 because im on cingular and I need 850 band.

I do like the 3.2mp camera on the k90 or even the k800 but dont know if its worth the wait and money
