Ive been researching phones and it seems some of the best ones arent available from carriers here in the US. I like the Sony Ericsson K750 and the new 790 coming out. How come I cant get them here? What happened to the w600? Should I wait before getting a new one?

You can purchase all of the ones mentioned off Ebay. The w600 is being replaced by the w810i.

The w600 was free on wirefly, which was the phone I wanted for my wife but its no longer listed. I dont want to pay full price for one. Is that what most people do, buy them on ebay and activate them on a compatible service?

I used to sell cell phones. The vast majority of Americans use their cell phones at only the most basic level. And they're cheap. That's why we don't have the many of the cool phones.

My requirements are:

Awesome Reception
Great Sound Quality
Decent Battery Life
Non-Gay Ringtone Option

I don't need camera's, text messages or any colorful crap. I just don't know how long my 5 year old Sprint phone is going to hold out.

Well lets be honest. They are more than phones. Yes they preform the function of a phone but if you are going to carry it I would like to be able to do more with it. I like the camera feature but I dont want any 640x480 pics. I like to be able to email and get email on the go as well. Not all phones are created equal.

Well, they are made overseas so that who gets them first. Same with the video game consoles.

Also, we are relatively simple users compared to asians. Despite the annoyances I have with Americans and their damn phones, we arent nearly as dependent on them as some folks complain about.

But it Korea and Japan, people live and die by those things. If it isnt a mobile server with built in High-Definition home theater, its just not powerful enough.
Like any other product, whoever is willing to spend the most money gets the most product.

You know in asia they cant believe we drive $50,000 cars that get 8 miles to a gallon?

Plus the wireless networks in the US are not as advanced as other parts of the world.

the k750 isn't subsidized by any GSM carrier, so they should be all unlocked. in fact, most of the high end sony ericsson phones should be unlocked.

Would it be worth it to spend the extra money and get a w800 or spend less and flash a 750?

Im liking this phone more and more. I am on t-mobile month to month. If I buy it, I just throw my sim card in and am good to go or no?
