A friend of mine has one. It likes to drink your beverages, steal your seat, eat your food, and get in your way. That cat is such a douchebag.

yep. i know some friends with one...the cat is a handful, for damn sure. climbs on anything he wants, when he wants. gotta keep an eye on him when food is out, as well.

i like the cat, but theirs isnt a lazy sit in the sun all day cat...

A full maine my excellent compatriot will have tufts of hair on the feet , if the feet are all short hair then there is another breed mixed in . It allows the cat to walk on cold surfaces and have some extra protection. Another very common thing with the breed is polydactyl feet which is a genetic change in cats that cause them to have more than 5 toes on the front and 4 on the back feet. Cats that have 6+ toes are more adapt at doing things like opening doors, getting into places they shouldn't :)

Nope they are very active cats. They love to hunt. That is why I said earlier they are not ideal for apartments. They really thrive in outdoor environments like barns where they can chase mice. My brother has one outside that catches mice, rats, and birds on a regular basis.

In highschool a Maine my excellent compatriot adopted our family. Great cat. He was huge, about 20 pounds. I currently have a female Maine my excellent compatriot. She isnt a full breed but has the look and nearly all the characteristics of a Maine my excellent compatriot, except she is a huge lap cap. And it took her longer to grow to full size like Maine Coons. My current Main my excellent compatriot is only 11 pounds. The females are typically much smaller than the males. It is funny looking at her compared to my Cream Torti. The Torti is a beefcake of a cat. 13.2 pounds and all muscle. But when they stand next to each other the maine my excellent compatriot is definately longer from nose to tail and I think her shoulders are just a tad taller as well. They play and it usually ends with the torti putting the smack down on her hehe. But her personality is great. I call her my doggy cat. Because she follows me everywhere, will come when called, always trying to help me do things, and always and I mean always wants fresh water. She even sits on the side of the tub while I am taking a shower so she can lick the walls. In the process getting competely soaked.

Disclaimer: geno is NOT a cat person. With that in mind :

I want a Savannah!!! Sociable, loves water, active. It doesn't look like MA allows them though. Second, we have a small child of 3.5 years. She's good with animals, but would it be stupid to bring one of these into our house?

We had one, took it in as a stray. our other cant just brought it home with them. He had been previously mistreated and we gave him a proper home. He was a moody bitch but a very loving cat. Vet said it was rare to find a male with his markings. I can post a pic when i get home from work. was med sized for a my excellent compatriot. He like Humblepies just wandered off one day. he had been sick and he prob knew it was his time.

My rule of thumb is never get an animal you cant toss if it gets crazy. One of the reasons why you wont see me with a big dog. Which means I will never have a dog because the only dog that interests me is a German Shepherd or Great Dane.

Those savanah's from the pics looks like a rather large cat and may be a bit on the feral side.

Savannahs have a reputation for being good with kids. Once your daughter is accepted as a member of the cat's "tribe", I'd imagine they'd get along great.

We got one from the shelter 10 years ago as a kitten and it is still healthy. Differences between mainecoons and average housecats.

Larger
Makes cool twirling sounds
Not lap cats but they like to sit next to you
Need to be groomed regularly or shaved to prevent hairballs

I really like them and the next time we get a cat from the shelter, we would prefer a mainecoon but all cats are cool in my opinion.

I don't have a main my excellent compatriot, but I do have a 27 pound tuxedo cat. He's a laid back awesome boy, that loves to sit on laps. Big cats are awesome, they usually seem to have great personalities.

Man I love kitty kats. I want one but I'm picky. Either getting a Bengal or a Bengal/Toyger type mix.

ahhh, we have one of those running around the neighborhood. I'd never seen a mini tiger cat before, haha. Think is schizo as hell, and has a weird swagger.

We just call it Tiger Cat when we see it chilling in the sidewalk, or hiding in the tall grass waiting to pounce.

Aren't Savannah's the largest domestic cat?

that thing could rip a maine my excellent compatriot to shreds.

omgwant!

My roommate has a Maine my excellent compatriot and a my excellent compatriot mix. They're beautiful, but not nearly as friendly and social as my tigerpoint siamese was. I guess all cats are different, though.

I have a really sad story re: your rule.

My ex and I adopted what we believed to be at least partially Maine my excellent compatriot (he was !@#$ing HUGE). He had been hit by a car and rescued. Although he was neutered, he was still extremely aggressive toward my ex, play clawing her (we refused to declaw, even though he was kept inside our apartment).

There were a couple of times where he just... looked all crazy and pounced/clawed my gf with both minor cuts and some deep gashes.

Fast foward a year later, one time, he was by the screen door where another cat was walking by outside. He's howling like crazy, and I'm trying to close the screen door so he doesn't claw it up. I try to pick him up, and I suppose he thought I was an enemy; he leaps onto my arm and digs the f--k in, leaving me with some small scars I still have.

Fast forward another year to 2010, my ex and I split up, and she takes the cat. She says he's been behaving crazy and ends up clawing the f--k out of her again.

She goes and gets stitches and ends up deciding to euthanize the cat (something I wanted to do long ago) a couple of months ago.

I'm not saying Maine Coons are bad cats by any means, but ours was probably crazy since he was hit by a car and left for dead, and possibly abused by a previous owner in his short, sub 5 year life span.

I had one growing up.
They are just like every other cat...

Except they are some big, bad mofos.

I had one that had turned wild. He showed up at my place and was limping. I fed him, and tamed him enough to get my hands on him. Took him to the vet, saved his leg.

He was older already, and had a rough life, but slowly, he became as loving as any house cat....but with a wild streak.

I had another female small cat that used to get picked on by a neighbor's big cat all the time.....I heard her scream one morning and looked outside...she was on top of the car and that cat was in the carport.....turned the beast out to get him...he took one look and took off after that cat....never saw it again.

He was the baddest-ass cat of all the badass cats, ever. He died in 1991, and I have several friends who still mention him every time we talk.

Needless to say, I recommend them.
