The best part about gas for your average consumer is that when you turn the heat down...the heat really turns down.

Electric on the contrary, takes forever for the heat to subside. When you are trying to bring something to a boil and then want to manage it better over lower heat, you almost have to move it to another burner that is already set to that heat.

That's the really frustrating thing about gas.

To me, gas stoves can create too much of a fire hazard, so I think electric stoves are much better.

Fire Hazard? What about grease fires? That's more of hazard than the stove.

Sounds like you have the old type of electric stove.

In our last house, we got one of those newer flat top electric stoves. The heating elements produce full heat almost instantly with almost no wasted electricity. And most pots and pan sit right against the flat surface with an even distribution of heat. Its also very easy to clean.

When we moved, our fuse box couldn't hold any more electric appliances and the stove was gas. We recently bought a newer gas stove with the electric ignition... but seriously, both my wife and I prefer our previous electric stove 100%.

Like what all the others have said, most chefs prefer gas stoves. I like gas, you can control the heat a lot better with gas.

I fvcking hate electric stoves.
I like the nice high btu gas stoves with a nice tall blue flame. Those are PERFECT for wok cooking.

They're not as efficient, but they are WAY better for cooking. I was stuck with electric for 12 years. In our new house, I forked out the $$$ for gas, and I'm never going back ;)

You would gag on gas fumes before you got enough gas in your house to cause an explosion. New gas stoves have electronic ignition so gas won't pass though unless it's lit.
