Academy Sports was running the Taurus PT111 for ~$230 while they were clearing their stock out to make way for the new model. Might check there if you have one locally.

I have a S&W Sigma 9mm.

Very simple design and I've put over 500 rounds through it with no problems. I bought the gun new for $250 with a total of 4 - 16 round magazines.

My only complaint, and the most comoon one, is the trigger pull. It's a tough gun to shoot accurately b/c of the amount of force the trigger requires. I hear the triggers can be modified to require less force.

Smith and Wessons Sigmas arent supposed to be available to you. They got sued by Glock for making them too similar to Glocks.

I had one back in 2003 or 2004. It was actually very nice for how inexpensive it was. Sold it off and wish I hadnt, since they are now sort of a collectors item.

If you want a 9mm and dont wish to spend too much money I'd suggest Berreta. They actually have some cheaper models of decent quality.

I actually seen a lot of positive reviews for the Hi-Point 9mm. Ugly as hell, fuckin' heavy slide, but a good shooter with a great warranty.

Similarly, I've seen a lot of good reviews for their 9mm carbine. For some reason the other calibers for each gun have more mixed reviews.

I believe that they redesigned the trigger mechanism after the glock lawsuit... hence why my trigger sucks.

I bought mine in Spring 2008.

Ahhhhhh! Interesting.
That makes the originals even more special.

If thats the case I would recommend the S&W Sigma to the OP. Its pretty darn good for being so cheap.

I would not want to buy the cheapest handgun I can buy.

Yadda yadda... something about "You get what you pay for" and "...when it blows your fingers off."

I'm not anti-gun or anything, but if you can't afford something with a little bit of quality and reliability you might as well wait until you can.

Actually there's a website very similar to eBay for guns called gunbroker. Often runs a bit expensive though.

When you order a gun online, by the way, you have to have it mailed to a gun shop with a federal firearms license and have them transfer it to you. You can't just have them mail it to your house.

Oh and for me, I would not recommend a Hi-Point, heard too many bad things about them. Instead I'd look at used S&W Sigmas and M&Ps, a Sig P6 (available from many places for <$300), or maybe a Taurus of some kind (PT111, or a PT92 if you can find one cheap enough). The Taurus PT92 is basically a Beretta 92 clone that costs less, usually $400-$500 though.

CDNN has good deals and you can download their catalog but they hardly list any of their prices. You have to call to know what things cost, so go through their catalog and write down all the ones you want to ask about when you call.

Cheap, but they get surprisingly good reviews.

They also have a lifetime, no questions asked warranty.

Just Google Hi-Point firearms.
Most people discount them as junk, but that's because they assume they are without actually shooting one.

wow, those things really *are* ugly. *shudder*

Bought a used Taurus PT92 AFS at Cabelas last year for $300. I felt like I stole it. I was in great shape and shoots great. Pic of one (not mine).
